19For diversity day we read a lovely story called “the colours of us”, we discussed the colours of people’s skin and how it makes us unique and we then created self portraits.
35In art class 6 have been researching different artists from Claire Caulfield to Lowry and their interpretations of urban areas. We took some pictures of local areas and today we are using skills we have learnt to draw them from our own perspectives.
27During art we have been researching Henri Matisse and looking at his style of work. We enjoyed using oil pastels to create the background for our final design.
29The children were excited to start their Art topic this afternoon, looking at different types of cameras and discussing their uses.
The children enjoyed a fantastic afternoon taking photographs of objects, patterns and places of interest, as part of their Art topic.
The children took some wonderful photographs this week for their Art topic, looking at landmarks, objects or patterns around the city centre before choosing and editing their final choices.
Reception celebrated world book day by reading the story Little Red Riding Hood this year, we had a fun day with lots of different activities such as role playing the story and sequencing the story in to order, we also made our own little red riding hoods.
Class 3 enjoyed walking along Hope Street looking and taking pictures of different architecture.

We took pictures of our own poses and sketched the ones we want to use for our final design.
23To continue our science work learning about mini beasts class 7 made ladybirds.
23The children learnt the history of Bluecoat and Pleasant Street Primary School. Some children dress up in old fashioned uniform. The children then designed their own uniform and some got to share with the group. Amazing ideas and designs!!
20Today we finished our sculptures inspired by Antony Gormley’s Another Place.
It is so fantastic to see all of our designs come to life.
A fantastic art club that the children of Pleasant Street are enjoying enormously delivered by The Bluecoat.
15In science Reception have loved exploring different lifecycles of animals, they started by exploring lifecycles of frogs, Reception enjoyed exploring an indoor ‘pond with frogs’. Reception cut and stuck the correct order of the frogs lifecycles after learning all about their lifecycle.
This week Reception have been learning all about butterfly lifecycles, exploring the way a caterpillar transforms into a butterfly, they have decorated their very own beautiful butterflies. In art Reception have been exploring mixing water colours and using pipets to make a painting, Reception have used cotton pads to create a lovely caterpillar.
Drawing and designing self- portraits to give people an understanding of who we are.
16Today Reception explored the school gardens looking for signs of seasonal change, they first planned which route they would walk around the gardens following directions. Then Reception examined the different plants and even saw some animals in the gardens. They loved seeing how much they have grown. After Reception had looked at the plants, vegetables and bugs they drew a picture to show what seasonal change they had found, some children drew trees that now had beautiful green leaves on and some children drew bugs and flowers.
Reception took a visit to our lovely computer room this week, the children were so sensible at finding a laptop, opening the screen and turning on the power button. The children had a go at moving the mouse on the keyboard. Reception then had a practice of using the mouse to make some art on the app ‘paint’, the children practiced clicking the button and using the trackpad to draw, it was a bit tricky but they had fun learning how to use the computer.
This week the class learnt about comic strips and created storyboards.
13We collected some natural objects and created our own piece of art work. We tried hard to design work in the style of Richard Long.
The children produced some amazing sculptures this week as the class ended their art topic!
Designing and making a 2d maps and 3D models of a festival. To be continued next week.
11This term reception is learning about “what makes our world special?” in RE, the children in reception have explored natural resources and describing them with this classmates. The children, explained what they liked and did not like about the natural resources, some of the children explained that they liked the stones because they felt smooth or the mushroom because it felt furry.
The children had so much fun exploring the natural objects from around our garden, we collected some of the objects and brought them inside to create beautiful sun catchers, we used recycled plates, sticky back plastic and our natural objects. Then the children loved decorating them to make them sparkly and beautiful.
This week in club we used the early years outdoors to collect natural objects, then we used our resources to create some natural art.
The children were very proud of their creations.
This term in Art reception have been looking at the artist Gustav Klimt, the children explored the artists brilliant masterpieces, the children were fascinated by the different colours, designs and textures of the artwork. The children were inspired to create their own artworks using Gustav Klimt’s work to guide them. Reception did a fantastic job.
In Nursery we read the story “The Colour Monster Goes to School”.
We discussed a range of emotions, the children described how they feel and created their own monsters.
7The class began some fantastic portraits this afternoon, in the style of the pop artist Julian Opie!
We researched the artist Roy Liechtenstein and looked at his style of art work. We created our own Pop Art self-portraits.
We have loved tasting vegetables and pasta salads to give us some ideas for our own designs.
2This term Reception are learning about the story ‘Juniper Jupiter’ in English. The children have explored lots of superheroes and we have been very crafty this week, creating our very own superhero lolly sticks and superhero masks.

LikeReception have been exploring seasonal changes this week, they have discussed about the season of autumn and what changes. Outside Reception loved looking for autumn leaves that have fallen from the trees. To further explore this we created faces out of autumn natural resources and used cotton buds to create autumn pictures.
Developing different skills are artists and using a range of media.
