Diversity Day – Walk Tall
This diversity day, we used the story ‘Walk Tall’ as our stimulus to explore the P4C question ‘Do people always know that they are bully?”
Pleasant Street’s approach recognises that emotional health and wellbeing is everyone’s responsibility. It should be embedded in the culture and ethos of the whole school. Children, staff and parents should recognise the wealth of opportunities available to positively impact the wellbeing of everyone involved in school life. We aim to implement a holistic and practical approach which will ensure timely and appropriate support.

The children learned that their voice matters – by expressing their feelings and understanding their rights, children can improve their mental health.
4This week Reception are celebrating mental well-being of children in school, we have enjoyed a lovely assembly from Class 3 on the importance of mental well-being, we then discussed what makes us proud and we drew some pictures of what makes us proud to be in school, what makes us proud at home and what makes us proud to be apart of our family.
5We were visited by Everton FC football players, Dobbins and Virginia who took the time out of their busy training schedule to visit school to play a competitive game of bench ball with some pupils. After the session, they sat down to discuss the importance of exercise and keeping fit and healthy and the impact that sport can have on our mental health and wellbeing.
18The class enjoyed listening to author Lucy Farfort this morning, after enjoying her book ‘In our Hands’ – a book about hope, unity and positivity! They also drew characters who would transform the world! The book links in well with the upcoming Mental Health and Wellbeing Week.
6Mental Health and Well-being Week
Today we have been very lucky to listen to Natalie Denny, Natalie went into amazing detail of her characters and what goes into writing a published book. We then had the pleasure of listening to the first chapter of Natalie Denny’s new book, Keisha Jones is a Force of Nature!
This book is about when Keisha discovers that the trees in a nearby park are going to be cut down to make way for a carpark, the Bee Squad has its next cause. It’s time for some green activism to save the VITs … that’s Very Important Trees!
9Great yoga class yesterday. We revisited some past poses and done some stretching.
Class 6 explored emotions in diversity day. We looked at what depression is and ways of making ourselves and others feel better.
During Diversity Day class 4 looked at “a shelter for sadness” by Anne Booth. The book is about a small boy who creates a shelter for his sadness, a safe space where Sadness is welcome, where it can curl up small, or be as big as it can be, where it can be noisy or quiet, or anything in between. The boy can visit the shelter whenever he needs to, every day, sometimes every hour, and the two of them will cry and talk or just sit, saying nothing. We discussed whether you should ever pretend you don’t feel a certain emotion.
11Class 2 took the opportunity to relax at the end of their yoga session!
12Some children enjoyed a trip to Hollywood Bowl today as a celebration for their excellent behaviour.
34In PSHE we have discussed ways of keeping safe at home, in school and when out and about.
12The children had a fantastic last session at Shy Lowen today, the children gave a presentation about their horse to the group. They then enjoyed rides on Thunder and Holly. They were all amazing!
