Some exciting household objects from the past arrived in class today. We looked at the items and discussed how we know they are from the past.

29We enjoyed a trip to the museum to take part in a workshop about toys. We compared toys from the past with modern day versions and spoke about the difference in materials and design.
35We had a very special visitor in school on party day, every class had the opportunity to visit the grotto and they left with some gifts.
139For Diversity Day we read ‘Ruby’s Worry’. We thought about the different themes in our story and discussed what a worry is. We spoke about what we can do when we feel worried and thought about the different people we can share our worries with.
Our P4C question was ‘Is it ever useful to worry?’
During art we have been researching Henri Matisse and looking at his style of work. We enjoyed using oil pastels to create the background for our final design.
This week in PE we enjoyed using different apparatus. We had to learn how to travel and use the apparatus safely.
In DT we practised the running stitch using a needle and thread. We had to carefully sew around the edge of the fabric. We are looking forward to making our puppet. ?
This morning Class 1 has been recapping what Algorithms are and why they are used when coding. Today children had to create algorithms to get a robot to complete different levels, we focused on moving forward and how we can use the turn right and left blocks to change direction. Children then looked at how we could apply this knowledge to a Beebot and created a ‘help sheet’ to use in the next lesson.
18The children wore some wonderful costumes and outfits today, as they celebrated World Book Day. The children were also excited to take home their free book.
This morning Class 1 have been using their knowledge gained from the past few weeks to program Beebots and Sphero Indi’s to move. Children worked to get the robots to do a series of instructions that included turning and moving forwards and backwards, children also completed different levels on the Beebot app.
15We had a fantastic afternoon at Sefton Park. We used a map to follow our planned route and a compass. We visited Sefton Park Lake, Old Nicks Cave, Sefton Palm House and The Fairy Glen. We identified human and physical features in the park.
We enjoyed tasting different fruits in class. We discussed the fruits we liked and disliked.
We collected data about our favourite fruit and favourite pets. We then represented our data by creating pictograms.

30We enjoyed making our own fruit salads. We followed the instructions we made and carefully chopped up the fruit. We took our fruit salads home to enjoy.
This week we enjoyed listening to ‘Yellow’ by Coldplay. Lots of us had heard this song before and liked hearing the guitar.
We enjoyed practising our throwing and catching skills. We then learnt how to hold a tennis racket and hit the ball to our partner.
Y1 enjoyed visiting Strawberry Field, John Lennon’s childhood home and Penny Lane as part of their History topic based on The Beatles. They viewed artefacts and information, took part in a sing-a-long with a musician and had the chance to ask the expert guide, Chris, lots of questions along the way.
20We collected some natural objects and created our own piece of art work. We tried hard to design work in the style of Richard Long.
Thank you to our visitors teaching us the importance of staying safe in and around water. We learnt techniques how to keep ourselves safe and what to do if we see anyone in need of help.
93We used blocks to help us work out the distance from Liverpool to each capital city in the United Kingdom. We discussed which capital city was the closest to our city and which was the furthest away.
We have worked hard locating the surrounding seas and oceans of the UK. We used atlases to help locate them and discussed the difference between a sea and ocean.
Each week in Forest School Club the children enjoy an activity of their choice, this weeks task was a “Bug Hunt”. We had so much fun exploring the Early Years outdoors looking for different insects.
