This diversity day class 6 read a book called ‘The Proudest Blue.’ About a girl who overcome negativity with the support of her family, friends and most of all, pride in herself. She went on to become an Olympic medalist showing us how we can overcome sadness and fear by celebrating who we are.
Today we read a book called “We’re all wonders”. We discussed are differences and how we should treat people with respect and have empathy towards them and be kind.
Class 5 used their book today as a stimulus to discuss how all families are different, but they are united by love. Our P4C question: Should love always look the same?

During Diversity Day class 2 enjoyed reading Specs for Rex written by Yasmeen Ismail. Rex has new glasses and he HATES them! He does NOT want to wear them to school, and he tries to hide them in the strangest places! But it’s pretty tricky hiding specs that are so big, round and RED.
It’s funny how things turn out though, because Rex’s specs end up winning him a gold star and a new friend. Even better, he can SEE properly. A beautiful story about the positive effects of being, well, maybe just a little different.
We spoke about the word ‘Neurodiversity’ and what we thought this word meant. As a class we learnt that everyone’s brain works differently and that this word is used to describe the different thinking styles that affect how people communicate with the world around them.
This diversity day we looked at the book ‘The Cookie’. This is a story about friendship and food allergies. In our group discussion we spoke about food allergies, how they can affect people and how showing empathy in friendship can help people to feel comfortable.
We wrote letters to Harry the character who needed guidance in how to show empathy to his friend, Laurie with food allergies.
This diversity day Class 6 read the book ‘My Princess Boy.’ A story about acceptance and support. This real life story shows us that by talking about our fears of being different, we can set things in motion where we can show (and help others to show) understanding and support.
Compassion takes effort, focus and commitment and the more time we take to understand peoples differences, the better we can support them and help others to accept their differences. We talked about what diversity means to us and discussed our question, ‘do you need to be different to be loved?’
This term our diversity day story is ‘Happy in our skin’ by Fran Manushkin, the story explores how people have their skin to keep their insides safe but also how we can happy within our skin, we discussed what makes us happy inside and wrote them down in to body pictures then we drew our faces.
For this term’s Diversity Day we read a book called ‘The Little Refugee’ about a boy who showed courage and resilience to help him survive. His hope, positivity and hard work helped him build a happy future for himself and his family. Class 6 talked about their thoughts on the book and we compiled a question ‘Do you need resilience to be patient?’ Where we put our thoughts to paper. We finished the day by celebrating our school and showing why we’re a school of sanctuary.

As part of our Diversity Day celebrations, the children explored the beautiful story “All Are Welcome” by Alexandra Penfold. This heartwarming book helped us reflect on the importance of kindness, inclusion, and embracing differences. Inspired by the story’s message, the children discussed what it means to make everyone feel valued and accepted. They then wrote their own thoughtful sentences about how they can help others feel welcome in our school. Their words captured a deep sense of empathy and community, showing that even the youngest voices can share powerful messages of unity.

Today year 6 have read a book called What do you do with a problem? We talked about different problems we may face and how they can affect us. We then had a discussion about the different ways we can deal with our problems and shared this with the school in our afternoon assembly.
In Nursery this week, we explored the story Marvellous Me! The children enjoyed thinking about what makes them special and unique. Using mirrors, they carefully looked at their features and created wonderful self-portraits. We finished by talking together about all the reasons why we are marvellous – from being kind friends to trying our best every day!
During Diversity Day class 3 enjoyed reading ‘Two Monsters’ written by David McKee. The book is about two monsters who live on either side of a mountain. Sometimes they talk through the hole in the mountain, but they never see each other. One evening, they get into a silly argument about whether day is departing or night is arriving, which escalates into a rock throwing fight, which eventually destroys the mountain, and enables the monsters to see each other’s point of view and live together as friends. We spoke about the themes of this book and identified themes such as differences, communcation and friendship.
As a class we discussed the similarites and differences of each other which then developed into our P4C question.
Is there ever a true right or wrong?
We were very lucky to be visited by Levi Tafari and Jenny from LLP today. Our KS2 children enjoyed a fantastic assembly listening to a live poetry performance by Levi and discussions about diversity, inclusion and equality. Y6 then enjoyed a poetry workshop.
Today for Diversity Day we talked about “Black History Month”. We discussed how things were in the past and how they have changed today. We looked at important people who made a change such as Martin Luther King and people to be celebrated, like Usain Bolt. We read the poem and thought about how we can ‘rise above’ the challenges we might face.
The class were fantastic this afternoon as they explained their Diversity Day work!

This afternoon we enjoyed an assembly that celebrated some of the work classes completed on Diversity Day. Class Five explained the Windrush Generation after reading ‘Coming to England’ by Floella Benjamin. They considered the range of emotions that may have been felt on the journey to England and how the new arrivals to the country settled. Their performance and discussions were excellent and they made links to some of our school values; resilience, respect and resourcefulness.
Reception then performed a verse from the poem ‘I Rise’. We were very proud of how confident the children were reciting the poem with actions in front of the whole school.
Our assembly was completed by a pupil in Y6, who performed her own original poem, based on ‘I Rise’. Her thought-provoking words reminded people that they can achieve anything if they put their mind to it.
For Diversity Day, our Nursery children shared the story Whoever You Are by Mem Fox, helping us celebrate what makes each of us special. During circle time, the children took turns swapping places when they shared something about themselves, such as having a brother or sister or their favourite food. They then chose pictures of themselves and their friends and talked about their similarities and differences, noticing things like “I have brown hair like my friend” or “we have different coloured skin.” Then the children decorated their friendship pictures. It was a wonderful way to explore friendship, respect, and belonging.
Class 3 had a wonderful yoga session this afternoon, learning simple poses and mindful breathing techniques. It was a great chance to unwind, strengthen their bodies and calm their minds. 🧘♂️🌼
This term in Diversity Day we read a poem about sadness. This helped us know what to do when we feel sad and how to help our fiends if they feel sad. We also learnt about what we can do on our own to help make ourselves feel better.

For this Diversity Day we read a book called The Colour Thief. It’s a story about depression, love, family, hope and the impact depression has on a family, told from a child’s perspective. It uses the metaphor ’Colour Thief’ to help us understand how depression can drain the joy and vibrant colour from a persons life, making their world seem grey and hopeless. We reflected on things that may make us feel worried or depressed and talked about how we overcome them.
We performed a small assembly in class to showcase all we had learnt and shared experiences and tips for helping us when we feel sad or worried. You can watch this on seesaw.
Nursery have been reading the poem The Blues by Joseph Coelho for this terms Diversity Day, which explores feelings of sadness and ways we can help ourselves feel better. During circle time, the children used their faces to show different emotions, talking about how we might feel when we are “blue.” They then drew pictures to share their own ideas about how to get out of the blues, such as playing, spending time with friends, or doing things they enjoy. It was a thoughtful and supportive session that helped the children explore emotions and build emotional understanding
✨ Year 3 Diversity Day ✨
Today we explored “Alone” by Maya Angelou and reflected on its message that nobody can make it alone. We discussed belonging, kindness and celebrating our differences.

The class used the book ‘You, me and empathy’ as their stimulus, discussing themes of compassion, kindness and empathy. Our P4C question was ‘ Is it still kindness if you are only kind because you have to?’
This week in Nursery we enjoyed reading the story Blue Chameleon. We talked about friendship and discussed what it might be like to choose someone different to play with for the day. The children shared ideas about what makes us the same and what makes us different, and we coloured in pictures of chameleons being friends.
We also explored the important message that, just like the chameleon, we are all unique. We talked about how we may look different, like different things, or be good at different activities and that these differences make our classroom special. We celebrated how being kind, welcoming, and inclusive helps everyone feel happy and valued.
This Diversity Day we discussed a poem called Alone. We explored what we thought it meant and the message it was giving.
“I think it’s telling us we can’t go through life alone.” ”I think it’s saying it doesn’t matter how rich you are you can still feel alone.” These are just some of the thoughts we had in class. We then wrote some poems of our own based around friendship after choosing the question ‘Can friendships always solve every problem?’. We have some fantastic poets in class 6.
Finally we read a book called Be Kind and asked ourselves what kindness looks like and how we show it. Some children said that it doesn’t take big actions or gestures to show kindness, we can show it by saying Thank You or just by giving someone a smile.
The children read a poem about neurodiversity for Diversity Day, thinking about how we all think differently. Our P4C question was ‘Can someone be ‘different’ and still ‘normal’? The children then wrote their own poems, with one member of class reading in assembly.
For this Diversity Day, we read the book “I Talk Like a River”. This book is about a boy who struggles to speak. He has a stutter and struggles to get his words out. This creates problems for him in school and he finds it hard to make friends. To help him his dad takes him to the river and explains that it’s like his speech because sometimes it flows calmly and other times the river stutters and becomes rough. This analogy helps the boy to accept his differences which makes his life a little easier. We then built on this by talking about neurodiversity and what it means. We discussed acceptance, equality and inclusion, emphasising that there’s no single right way for our brains to work, celebrating our differences.
As part of our Diversity Day this term, our nursery children explored the poem “All The Ways To Shine.” Through discussions, we talked about how everyone is different and what makes each of us unique and special. The children shared their favourite things and expressed these through their drawings, celebrating their individuality. The children were proud to showcase their work and their performance of the poem in the school assembly, reminding them that the world is brighter when we can all be ourselves.

The poem led to some thoughtful discussions about kindness, courage and understanding others. During our P4C enquiry, we discussed the question: “Is kindness more important than following rules?” The class shared some fantastic ideas and showed great empathy and respect for different cultures. 🌍💙
Today we had our Diversity Day. We read a book called ‘Wisp, A story of Wonder.’ The themes of this story were Refugees, War, Starting somewhere new, Asylum, Empathy and Welcoming others. The children made connections to stories they’d read and situations they have been in that relate to our story. They made lovely predictions about the story and we talked about how Hope can make a difference to our lives.
For Diversity Day, the Nursery children enjoyed exploring and celebrating our similarities and differences. We began by looking at a variety of fruits and discussing our favourites, discovering that some of us liked the same fruits while others had different preferences. We then shared the story Red Rockets and Rainbow Jelly, which helped us think about how friends can enjoy some of the same things while also having their own unique interests.
The children talked about how they were dressed, noticing similarities and differences between themselves and their friends. They then used photographs of themselves to create pictures and share things they like. Together, we discussed what we have in common and what makes us unique, learning that our differences are something to celebrate and that everyone belongs in our Nursery community.

For this Diversity Day, we read the poem “It’s ok to change.” The poem is about accepting that change is a natural part of life. It reminds us that growing, learning and becoming a different version of ourselves is not something to fear. The poem encourages readers to embrace change and trust that it’s ok to move forward, even when we don’t know exactly where we’re going.
We discussed change and reflected on what it might look like for us. We formulated some questions around the concept of change and selected our final question…Does change always mean you will be different? We had some great class discussions and finished the day writing our own poem. This morning we presented our poems to the school in our school assembly.
For Diversity Day, Nursery enjoyed listening to a special story called ‘Marvelous Me’ which is all about celebrating what makes each of us unique. The children talked about why they are marvellous, sharing the things they like, what they are good at, and what makes them special. They then created wonderful self-portraits, celebrating themselves and recognising that although we are all different, we are all equally special and valued.
