It was fantastic to take a new group to Shy Lowen Horse Sanctuary this week. Over the next six weeks the children will build confidence as they groom their chosen horse, learn lots of facts about horses and then have a ride on the last session.

We explored our allotment garden and greenhouse to see what changes have taken place over our long break. The children found sweet peppers, lots of tomatoes, some melons and pumpkins. We also dug up our potatoes which Matt made into potato cakes for our lunch the following day, they were delicious.

We welcomed our new School Council members at their first School Council meeting yesterday, held at the wonderful Victoria Gallery just off Brownlow Hill. Mr Verdin joined us and asked the children to focus on the following three areas this year: promoting the school savings bank, reducing wasted electricity and reducing food waste at lunch. The children all did us proud with their ideas and their behaviour (as always).
After the meeting we had a chance to look around the museum, which is open for families to visit for free on Saturdays from 10am to 5pm.

Yesterday at Busy Bees we did things a little differently and cooked our own snack over the campfire! We toasted our bread on toasting forks and on a grill over the firepit, and drizzled on delicious honey. We enjoyed practising with the flint and steels, which we use to light the fire, and sang songs while we waited for the toast to brown.

Week 2 at the stables and the children are learning how to groom their horse. Everyone is doing really well and the horses look really relaxed.

Matt, our school chef is running weekly cookery classes with pupils. During the sessions they prepare and cook their own dishes, which they take home to enjoy. They also take home a copy of the recipe so that it can be recreated at home with family members. Take a look at some of the delicious dishes that have been created so far!

Class 6 visited The Imperial War Museum in Manchester today to learn all about the history of World War II as part of our history topic. We focused on the defences used to protect soldiers and cities that were being attacked. The role women played during the war, life on the home front and the holocaust. We gathered lots of information to take back to the classroom and into our books. Then finished the day listening to an emotional, inspiring poem by a poet Tony Walsh called Mightier Than War.

Class 1 had an amazing outing today, taking a trip on the ferry across the River Mersey. All of the children were very excited to climb onto the Upper Deck to get the best view of the Liverpool landmarks we have been learning about in our art and geography lessons. We spotted the Radio City tower, two cathedrals, the Everton Stadium and the two Liver Birds who perch atop the Liver Building and watch over our city.

Class 2 went on a trip to the Fire station, to learn about Firefighters and the equipment they use. This trip also helped class 2, to identify the changes in firefighting equipment that have occurred since, the great fire of London. Which they have been learning about in History.

In this week’s session, the children worked together to make fried chicken and Ceaser Salad, they are looking forward to recreating this dish at home.

The children enjoyed a variety of sporting activities this morning, with help from university students.

Nursery have had a wonderful pumpkin picking adventure! The day before our trip, we talked about what we might see and do at the pumpkin patch. The children enjoyed role-playing collecting pumpkins and transporting them in a wheelbarrow in our classroom, before drawing maps of their very own pumpkin patches.

Today, the excitement continued as we visited the pumpkin patch for real! The children loved exploring, discovering the pumpkins, and bringing their learning to life through this exciting hands-on experience.

The children enjoyed an Anglo Saxon workshop this morning at the Museum of Liverpool. The class acted as historians and archaeologists, looking at artefacts of everyday Saxon life, their weapons, materials and burials/settlements and place names.

The children had a lovely time visiting the farm, exploring the fields full of different types of pumpkins. The children looked at the pumpkin plant finding some pumpkin seeds and flowers on the ground, then we chose a variety of pumpkins to put in the wheelbarrow to take back to school. The children also enjoyed walking through the tall sweetcorn plants feeling the soft seed heads and opening the sweetcorn cobs, which we took to school for the chef to cook for our lunch the following day.
