The children used images of Brisbane, Australia and Formby to discuss similarities and differences between these two locations.

Chester Trip

We enjoyed a trip to Chester as part of our Geography topic comparing the North West and the Mediterranean. Whilst there we looked at the features of the area and completed surveys and studies on land use and the reasons why people were visiting the area on the day.

Birkenhead Park Trip

As part of our North America topic, we visited Birkenhead Park – did you know that this was the inspiration behind New York’s Central Park as it was the very first public park.

Exploring Seasonal Change

Our EYFS garden looked like a Winter Wonderland this morning so we couldn’t resist the opportunity to explore seasonal changes to our environment………… and to have some fun ? ❄️ ⛄️

Geography trip to the University

Year 3 enjoyed a fantastic geography trip to the University of Liverpool. We learnt about different rocks and we looked at volcanos. During the session we enjoyed dressing up in lab coats and performing an experiment. ?

Geography in Spring 1

Before the half term Reception enjoyed exploring maps on the computer and guessing where we lived in the world, Reception then drew their houses on a map to show where they lived.

This term for Spring we explored again different places around the world using the computer, Reception let me know where they wanted to go on google earth and we discovered lots of different countries and places some children have been on holiday to and some places they have never been before. Reception also investigated some atlases.

Sefton Park

We had a fantastic afternoon at Sefton Park. We used a map to follow our planned route and a compass. We visited Sefton Park Lake, Old Nicks Cave, Sefton Palm House and The Fairy Glen. We identified human and physical features in the park.

Trip to Mold???????

For geography, class 3 explored Mold in Wales. We used our map reading skills to help us walk up loggerheads. We had a great day!

Anglesey Update

This morning, some of us enjoyed a brisk walk around the beautiful grounds of the National Trust property next to our adventure centre. We enjoyed taking in our surroundings as we walked along the Menai Strait. We then all enjoyed a delicious breakfast. Today groups are enjoying gorge scrambling, paddle boarding, via ferreta, low ropes and the zip wire. We will post some more updates this evening.

Paddleboarding

Group Two enjoyed a morning on the water, paddle boarding. The headed down to the Menai Strait in their wet suits and jumped into the very chilly water. After getting to grips with the basics of turning, spinning and trying to travel in a straight line, they walked up the shore and travelled back to the beach. It was great to see some brilliant teamwork on display, helping each other to get into the safety equipment and encouraging each other on the boards.

Via Feratta

Group 3 enjoyed a morning climbing a Via Feratta (Iron Path). They showed bravery and resilience as they faced their fears and they worked brilliantly together as a team.

Gorge Scrambling

Group 1 enjoyed a full day activity today, Gorge Scrambling. They explored rugged rocky ravines and their flowing streams and icy pools. They worked brilliantly together to get through the challenges, encouraging each other every step of the way!

Seasonal Change Walk?☀️

Today Reception explored the school gardens looking for signs of seasonal change, they first planned which route they would walk around the gardens following directions. Then Reception examined the different plants and even saw some animals in the gardens. They loved seeing how much they have grown. After Reception had looked at the plants, vegetables and bugs they drew a picture to show what seasonal change they had found, some children drew trees that now had beautiful green leaves on and some children drew bugs and flowers.

Geography – Pre-task map skills

The children spent the afternoon completing their pre-task – using an atlas to find countries within continents.

Distance from Liverpool to capital cities in the UK.

We used blocks to help us work out the distance from Liverpool to each capital city in the United Kingdom. We discussed which capital city was the closest to our city and which was the furthest away.

What Geography looks like in Reception…

In Geography we have been learning about hot and cold, we discussed where different animals live depending on the temperature. The children done an amazing job putting them in the correct category independently.

The children marked continents on a world map this afternoon before discussing places in the world they had visited and using Google Earth to explore!

UK

We have worked hard locating the surrounding seas and oceans of the UK. We used atlases to help locate them and discussed the difference between a sea and ocean.
