Today, we celebrated Diversity Day. In Nursery we read a wonderful book called āMarvellous Meā. This text allowed our children to consider how theyāre different from their classmates, but how each of them are Marvellous in their own unique way.
We had a very special visitor in school on party day, every class had the opportunity to visit the grotto and they left with some gifts.
Our EYFS garden looked like a Winter Wonderland this morning so we couldnāt resist the opportunity to explore seasonal changes to our environmentā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ and to have some fun ? āļø āļø

In Nursery we read the story āThe Colour Monster Goes to Schoolā.
We discussed a range of emotions, the children described how they feel and created their own monsters.
We enjoyed learning how to balance a bean bag on our bodies whilst travelling.
We love playing and listening to music in Nursery with Mrs Grindley.
This week we have been reading Oliverās Vegetables, we discussed what vegetables we already know and some new. To find out wether the children liked or disliked the vegetables we did a taste test.
We had a fantastic time visiting the Pumpkin Patch, we enjoyed exploring the big open field looking for different sized and coloured Pumpkins.
In maths we practised sending repeating patterns of balls along the gutters.
We read a story called āKindā, the children completing a sorting activity highlighting what actions are kind or unkind.
During diversity day Nursery discussed the different emotions we can feel. We looked at some images of emotions and spoke about what makes us feel happy, sad, angry etc. Nursery then used a variety of different resources to create faces with different emotions.
The children enjoyed looking at a Map of Liverpool, we looked around our school and tried to navigate areas that we may recognise or have visited before.
In Nursery weāve been focusing on the word āsameā, the children have enjoyed playing and matching the same and not the same items around our classroom independently and adult-led.
Today we visited the Aquarium inside the Museum to further explore our under the sea topic, the children were able to first hand see different types of fish and sea creatures.
This week we got the opportunity to explore the balancing and climbing apparatus, the children showed confidence and resilience.
The children are showing a great level of understanding with their counting and recognising numbers. During this activity, the children independently counted the correct amount of flowers and glued it to the correct number plant pot.
The children enjoyed being read to by a mystery guest reader.
A big thank you to one of our Nursery and Y1 parents, who surprised the children this afternoon as our Mystery Guest Reader. He read two wonderful books, singing songs and putting on different voices for the characters.

The children listened to the story, The Squirrels who Squabbled. We noticed what happened when Cyril and Bruce argued over a nut they got into all kinds of trouble. We discussed being kind to each other and how important it is to share. We spoke about the things we can share with our friends and families in school and at home.
This morning a number of children decided to go on a mini beast hunt. They looked under logs, branches and leaves to see if they could find any of the mini beasts on their checklists and they were pleased to find lots of signs of life in the garden!
Nursery have been reading āCinderellaā this week. The children have enjoyed making a carriage, writing invitations to the ball and creating magic wands šŖāØ.
Our families joined us to play, we explored the nursery and the children were able to show their families what new things they have learnt and currently learning about.
In Nursery the children have been learning how to measure height, in a group we used wooden blocks to measure how tall the children are. The children then began to use this knowledge into their play and make their own towers using the language taller and shorter.
Nursery have enjoyed observing caterpillars, spiders and bees in the garden. They used magnifying glasses and screens to take a closer look.
This week, our mud kitchen was a hive of activity as the children made pancakes, ice-creams and magic potions in the sunshine. We also overheard some of our special words from Maths and NELI this week where the children discussed heavy and light.
The children have been reading a story called āPip and Posy – The New Friendā. The story is set at the beach so we explored what types of things we might see at the beach. The children used a magnifying class to look closely.
In Maths we have been learning about full, half full and empty. During this activity the children used their fingers or a cotton stick in the paint to display a āfullā, āhalf fullā and āemptyā jar, The children understood the concept and used the correct language throughout this activity to show a clear understanding.
Nursery went on a special trip to Acorn Farm to see a range of different farm animals, to learn new things about the animals and see where they live. The children enjoyed watching the adults feed some of the animals and for some children this was their first time experiencing visiting the farm which they found really exciting.
Our story this week is Pip and Posy – The New Friend. Today our special word was ācollectā so the children went into the garden with a checklist to collect particular items and put them inside their bag.
Today we enjoyed ‘Find Your Happy’ and listened carefully to the actions we can do when we feel sad, lonely or worried. We focused in on when we might feel in the blue zone and the actions we can take to try to make ourselves feel a little better. We hugged our friends, spoke about listening to music and having a dance and talked about eating our favourite foods to try to move to the green zone.

The children are becoming super confident with their number recognition 1 to 10. Weāve been working really hard in Maths to support the childrenās number formation skills.
We enjoyed reading the story āDinosaur Rocketā it allowed us to get creative and use our imagination. The children enjoyed making their very own rockets and shared ideas of what they would take to the moon if they were given the opportunity.
Today we listened to the a story called āThe Colour Monsterā and we spoke about all the different emotions that we may feel. In a circle the children confidently shared what makes them happy whilst holding the yellow monster which resembles happiness.
Our NELI story this week is āNothing Can Frighten a Bearā. One of our special words inside the book was āfrightenedā so the children thought about something that frightens them and then drew it.
The children had a fantastic time at sports day, completing different races and other sports based activities. They were all really supportive and amazing team players.
A big thank you to everyone who attended our family BBQ last week. A great time was had by all and we managed to raise over Ā£1000 which will help school funds. We were also able to make a donation to Shy Lowen Sanctuary, where lots of our children have attended over the years. We cannot wait until our next event.
Nursery and Reception have had a wonderful party day today, they enjoyed playing lots of fun games in the garden such as hook a duck, bean bag toss and making some fantastic party hats.
In Nursery this week, we explored the story Marvellous Me! The children enjoyed thinking about what makes them special and unique. Using mirrors, they carefully looked at their features and created wonderful self-portraits. We finished by talking together about all the reasons why we are marvellous ā from being kind friends to trying our best every day!
All About Me!
Our nursery children have been celebrating everything that makes them special. We shared stories and conversations about ourselvesāour faces, favourite things, and what makes each of us unique.
Using natural treasures from our garden walk that we found, we created fantastic faces using leaves, twigs, and stones from the garden to create beautiful self-portraits. Inspired by Billy and the Big New School, they explored different facial expressions and how our feelings can show on our faces by sticking and gluing different facial expressions on to portraits pictures.
To finish our āall about meā adventure, everyone designed a delicious pancake face using breakfast items and fresh fruitāsmiles you could eat! What a wonderful way to learn about who we are while being creative, curious, and proud of ourselves.
Our nursery children enjoyed looking at the book In the Beginning, which shares the Christian story of how the world began. We spent some time looking at the front cover, noticing the colours and images, and talking about what the story might be about.
Together we discussed some of the ideas in the story light and dark, land and sea, animals and people as part of our wider exploration of different beliefs and stories about how the world was created.
We used some magic pens to write our names this week. Once we had made our mark on paper, we placed it in the microwave and watched our letters puff up!
Our nursery children set off on an exciting shape hunt around the school! We navigated our way through our school using directions. Armed with sharp eyes and plenty of curiosity, they spotted circles, squares, triangles, and more hidden in everyday places from windows and doors to playground markings. The children loved naming each shape and talking about where they appear in our world.
Garden Fun and Helping Hands
Our nursery children had a wonderful time exploring the garden stomping in muddy puddles, mixing water and soil, and discovering different textures. They also became little helpers, using paintbrushes and squeegees to clean the garden windows, making them sparkle while enjoying plenty of splashes along the way!
This week weāve been exploring our own family histories, inspired by the story Owl Babies, which celebrates the comfort of family and belonging. The nursery children talked about the people who are important to them and how families can be the same or different over time.
Using lolly sticks, they carefully built little houses and then drew their families inside, sharing stories about parents, grandparents, and siblings. It was a lovely way to connect our learning about families in the past and present while celebrating what makes each home special.
In PSED we read the story ‘The Hug Button’, we used the Zones of Regulation to describe how the character was feeling at different points in the story. Some of the children re-read the story using the coloured bean bags to describe the feelings.
The children worked together to make play-dough, we gathered all the ingredients that we needed and measured them using a cup. The children took turns adding an ingredient each, then we got messy using our hands to knead the dough.
This week we have been reading The Rainbow Fish, the children designed their own fish and put their very own shiny scales on just like the story.
The children followed a superhero dough disco routine. Dough Disco improves the childrenās fine and gross motor skills, it enhances hand muscle strength and their hand-eye coordination.
After reading the book ‘Moppy is Sad’ we spoke about how we were feeling. We used the scale to show our friends, explain which zone we were in and then discussed why we felt this way.
Today, we spoke about our upcoming Forest School sessions by establishing some safety rules. We moved our story time to the fire pit area, so that we could get used to sitting on the wooden logs. When our story was finished, we listened carefully to the instructions about how we walk behind the logs so that we do not stand close to the fire. We were very sensible and spoke about our knowledge about fire safety and the dangers of touching things that are hot or playing near fire. We can’t wait to continue to explore forest school and activities over the next few weeks.
In Nursery, the children have been exploring 2D shapes through fun, hands-on activities. They have been learning to name and describe shapes such as circles, squares, triangles and rectangles, using words like sides, corners and round.
Through shape hunts, feely bags and games the children have been spotting shapes in their environment and discovering how shapes fit together to make pictures and patterns. Our activities help to build early maths language, spatial awareness, and problem-solving skills all through exciting play and exploration!
This week, our Nursery children have been exploring the natural world and discovering the changes in autumn. Out in the garden, they have been busy collecting leaves, exploring pine cones and conkers using their senses to look closely, touch, and talk about what they notice.
Through play and exploration, theyāre developing curiosity, observation skills, and a real sense of wonder about the changing seasons.
Our Nursery children had a wonderful time visiting Hightown Pumpkin Patch this week! The children enjoyed exploring the fields, spotting pumpkins of all shapes, sizes, and colours, and learning how they grow. They loved choosing their own pumpkins to take back to school and talking about the signs of autumn they could see around them.
The trip was full of curiosity, laughter (after the rain), and hands on learning a perfect seasonal adventure to spark conversations about harvest, nature, and change.
Thank you to all the families that came to our wonderful stay and play session this term, the children loved having their families come and play with them in their class.
This week, our Nursery children have been learning about Diwali, the Festival of Lights. They explored the celebration by creating beautiful patterns and decorating their own Diya lamp paper plates with bright colours, glitter, and sequins. The children enjoyed talking about light, colour, and celebration, helping them to learn more about different traditions and festivals from around the world.
This week, our Nursery children enjoyed reading Pumpkin Soup by Helen Cooper. They had great fun pretending to make their own soup in the tuff tray before helping to wash, chop, and smell a variety of real vegetables. Together, the children created a set of instructions for how to make pumpkin soup, using lots of fantastic language to describe what they were doing. The teachers then cooked and blended the soup, and everyone enjoyed tasting their delicious homemade pumpkin soup for snack time. It was a wonderful sensory and storytelling experience that brought the book to life!
For Diversity Day, our Nursery children shared the story Whoever You Are by Mem Fox, helping us celebrate what makes each of us special. During circle time, the children took turns swapping places when they shared something about themselves, such as having a brother or sister or their favourite food. They then chose pictures of themselves and their friends and talked about their similarities and differences, noticing things like āI have brown hair like my friendā or āwe have different coloured skin.ā Then the children decorated their friendship pictures. It was a wonderful way to explore friendship, respect, and belonging.
Our Nursery children had a wonderful time creating fantastic Bonfire Night pictures using glitter glue, paints, and loose parts to make bright, sparkling fireworks. They enjoyed watching a firework display and an information video to learn more about how people celebrate Bonfire Night. Afterwards, the children talked together about how to stay safe when watching fireworks and sparklers. It was a fun, creative, and colourful week full of excitement and learning!
Damo, a parent of one of the children in KS2 joined us to read two books about very special dogs. We enjoyed listening to Detective Dog and Hospital Dog by one of our favourite authors, Julia Donaldson. We enjoyed listening and talking about the stories together and we can’t wait to see who our next special guest will be. This week, our Nursery children have been learning all about light and dark. They had great fun creating their own telescopes, using torches to make shadows, and exploring how light can change the shapes we see. The children were full of excitement as they experimented, discovered, and talked about what happens when light shines on different objects. It was a brilliant hands-on way to learn through play and curiosity!
In PE, our Nursery children have been developing their balancing and throwing skills through fun, active games. They practised balancing using ladders and hurdles, then progressed to balancing along benches and ropes on the floor, and worked on throwing, and catching bean bags with increasing control. The children showed great determination and coordination as they explored new movements and built their confidence through play.
Last week in Nursery, we marked Remembrance Day and Children in Need through meaningful and creative activities. The children worked together to make a beautiful poppy wreath using their handprints, helping them learn about remembering and thanking others. We also had a fun own clothes day, where the children enjoyed making colourful party hats and decorating cupcakes to celebrate Children in Need. It was a special week filled with creativity, kindness, and community.
We are very proud of the children in Early Years who showed confidence and resilience while performing nursery rhymes for the rest of the school and for their families.

Nursery have been enjoying the story āAliens Love Underpantsā by Claire Freedman and Ben Cort. The children practised their fine motor skills by hanging underpants on the washing line, carefully opening the pegs and counting how many they had hung.
The next morning, the children arrived to a surprise our underpants had disappeared! The Aliens had sneaked in, taken them from the line, and hidden them around the classroom, leaving behind a trail of clues.
Together, we followed the clues to discover where the cheeky Aliens had hidden our underpants. It was a fantastic adventure full of curiosity, problem-solving, and excitement!
The children have been having a wonderful time in the garden. They explored the music area, using sticks, pots, and pans to create beautiful chimes and rhythms. In the pipe and ball area, they experimented with making exciting patterns and pathways, and in the construction zone they used the play tools to build some fantastic creations. Itās been a week full of imagination, exploration, and hands-on learning!
Thank you to our mystery guest reader, a parent of one of the children in reception for visiting us in the nursery to share an information book, we enjoyed learning about how to keep our bodies healthy. We thought about looking after our teeth by eating healthy foods and brushing our teeth twice a day. We can not wait to see who are next special guest will be.

Today we enjoyed our first Forest School session. We had a reminder of the fire safety rules from the story Fiery Fox before lighting our fire. Each child helped to cut the kindling by banging the knife with a mallet. After this we watched Miss make dragon sneezes with the fire steel to light the cotton wool.
Whilst the fire was burning, some of us went on a scavenger hunt around the garden to find objects such as stones, conkers and logs. Some children preferred to have a chat around the fire with their friends.
When the fire was ready, we prepared a tasty treat, chocolate bananas! We sliced them and placed chocolate buttons inside before wrapping them up in foil. After they had heated up, we enjoyed eating them together.
This week our story of the week was Stick Man. The children enjoyed a range of creative activities inspired by the story. They made their own special sticks by carefully wrapping colourful wool around them, and they also created bird feeders using Cheerios and pipe cleaners to help look after the birds in our garden. We painted wonderful Stick Man pictures and spent time talking about Stick Manās family, leading to lovely conversations about the people who make up our own families. It has been a week full of creativity, imagination, and meaningful discussions.

Our Nursery children have explored a collection of old items as part of our history learning. They were fascinated by objects such as a typewriter, an old radio, and a vintage camera. The children loved investigating how these items work, comparing them to the technology we use today, and asking curious questions about how people used them in the past. It was a wonderful hands-on introduction to history and how everyday objects have changed over time.
Today we were very glad of our big tent, which helped to keep us warm and dry. We held our fire friend and reminded each other of the safety rules. We then went on a search for Holly Hedgehog and Olly Owl, thinking about their usual habitats to help us locate them. We then had a go at using flint and steels to try to make our own dragon sneezes; it was a little difficult but we started to get the hang of it with adult help.
After this we enjoyed a special treat to warm us up. A delicious milky hot chocolate with a biscuit.
This week Nursery had a very special visitor āFather Christmasā and his reindeer, they come to our school and meet all of our lovely children. The children had so much fun and were so grateful to receive a wonderful present from him. What a lovely day.
In Nursery this week, the children have been taking part in our early number groups, building confidence and developing their counting skills. Each group has been working at their own level. Some children have been practising counting confidently up to 3 with teddy bears, other group have been extending their skills by recognising numbers up to 5 hidden behind glitter and a further group have been challenging themselves by counting all the way up to 8, creating towers from number cubes.
This term in Nursery, the children have been creating their own imaginative dances inspired by everyday household items such as washing machines and sprinklers. They explored different ways of moving, using actions that spin, shake, stretch, and sway. The children also practised important skills such as balancing, mirroring each otherās movements, and working together to build a simple dance routine. It has been a fun and expressive way for the children to develop coordination, creativity, and confidence.
For our last few weeks of school the children have been listening to the story āThe Jolly Christmas Postmanā by Allan Ahlberg and Janet Ahlberg. The children have loved writing postcards and Christmas Cards and letters.
The children have also enjoyed joining to do some fantastic Christmas activities in our stay and play session and at our party day.
Nursery have been reading the poem The Blues by Joseph Coelho for this terms Diversity Day, which explores feelings of sadness and ways we can help ourselves feel better. During circle time, the children used their faces to show different emotions, talking about how we might feel when we are āblue.ā They then drew pictures to share their own ideas about how to get out of the blues, such as playing, spending time with friends, or doing things they enjoy. It was a thoughtful and supportive session that helped the children explore emotions and build emotional understanding
Nursery and Reception children have been busy exploring ice in the garden when it was snowy. They loved investigating how cold and slippery the ice felt and watched closely as it began to melt in their hands. The children then used watercolours to paint the ice, noticing how the colours spread and blended as the ice melted. It was a wonderful sensory experience full of curiosity, creativity, and scientific thinking.
On Thursdays, Nursery enjoy their weekly music lesson with Mrs Grindley. This week the children joined in beautifully with singing and actions to the song āCan You Sing La La La?ā They listened carefully, copied the movements, and had lots of fun exploring rhythm, pitch, and expression through music. It was a lively session full of confidence and smiles!
This week the police came into our class to talk with the children about their special job, the children enjoyed looking at all the special police uniform and their attachments. The children had a go at trying on some uniform and even the handcuffs. The Policemen showed the children how they use their radios and we even got to speak to someone in the control room. Then the policemen showed us their amazing car and how it flashes its lights and uses its siren. Then a special visitor Bobby came and surprised us with some high fives before the children had a look inside the police van. What an amazing day for Nursery!
In our Maths this week in Nursery, we have been discussing positional language with our teddy friend Doodles, we have been placing Doodles on top, under, next to, behind and in front. The children did a fantastic job of saying the positional language and showing they understand where to put Doodles.
We have been focusing on printing this term for our craft table, we have used sponges and rollers to create some fantastic prints, using out fine motor skills to squash the sponges into the paint and then on to the paper. Lots of messy fun.
For our first NELI story Nursery read the story āNeon Leonā which explores being different in the jungle and finding a place where Leon belongs. The children created some beautiful pictures of Neon Leon and we played a matching game to match the toy jungle animals with the real life picture of the jungle animal, the children did an amazing job!
Nursery have been learning all about the changing seasons, exploring our world around us. The children have been painting some wonderful winter themed pictures and using the loose parts to create some fabulous snowflakes.
We then discussed different clothes that we would wear in different seasons and how we need to wrap up warm in the winter. The children then completed a cut and stick activity to match the items to season.
Last week we read the story āDonāt wake up Tiger!ā in our NELI sessions, our focus words were āfloatā āhurryā āstrokeā and āworryā. Some activities we did this week include floating items in water and seeing which items float or donāt float. We also created some wonderful tiger pictures and wrote some cards for Tigers birthday. Before we were invited to Tigers birthday party where we had an amazing party.
This week in our maths sessions, we have been using our subitising and counting skills, using numerals and amounts to match.
This group of children counted the correct amount of bears into the basket, they used their counting skills to count up 3 bears.
This group of children counted up to 5 bears and matched 5 to the correct numeral.
This group of children counted up to 10 numerals and matched the correct quantity.
And this group of children had a big challenge, counting beyond 10 and matching the amounts to the numerals.
The children all did fantastic counting this week and should all be so proud of themselves.

Nursery celebrated Number day on Friday by creating some wonderful number 8 masks, they decorated them and we carefully cut them out and wore them as fantastic masks.
The children also did some fantastic number activities and the children even had a go at writing some wonderful numbers.
In Nursery PE this week, the children enjoyed using the climbing gymnastic equipment, developing their strength and coordination. The practiced balancing, climbing and moving safely in different ways. The children had lots of fun and supported their physical development.
Nursery had a fantastic time celebrating Chinese New Year. The children enjoyed making colourful lanterns, tasting delicious noodles, and watching exciting dragon dances. We also went to visit the beautiful Chinese arch, which helped us learn more about the traditions and celebrations. It was a wonderful opportunity to explore a different culture through creativity, food, and movement.
The Nursery children enjoyed our music lesson with Mrs Grindley today singing our lovely come to the pet shop. The children did some beautiful singing and actions.
This week in Nursery we enjoyed reading the story Blue Chameleon. We talked about friendship and discussed what it might be like to choose someone different to play with for the day. The children shared ideas about what makes us the same and what makes us different, and we coloured in pictures of chameleons being friends.
We also explored the important message that, just like the chameleon, we are all unique. We talked about how we may look different, like different things, or be good at different activities and that these differences make our classroom special. We celebrated how being kind, welcoming, and inclusive helps everyone feel happy and valued.
This week in our NELI story we read Toby and the Tricky things, our special words were āpourā, ābig and smallā ātrickyā and āby myselfā. The children have been really trying to do tricky things this week such as putting on their coats and fastening their zip by themselves. The children in small groups have had a go at pouring different materials into cups, in the garden the children have poured rice into different containers and in the water tray the children have used containers to pour. In our maths this week we looked at big and small in connection with our NELI story, the children had a go at ordering big and small bears, big small and medium size wooden people and ordering people biggest to smallest in class.
Nursery have been learning all about Ramadan and Eid this week, the children watched an information video about how Muslims celebrate Eid. The children then created these fantastic lanterns in our directed activity and mehndi patterns in choose.
The children had a fantastic world book day, this year we celebrated fairytales and the children had a go at lots of wonderful fairytale activities in our choose time. The children then drew a missing poster for Goldilocks in our directed activity. The children had the best day. The children said āI loved to dress up and play cleaning up like Cinderellaā.
We enjoyed a lovely forest school session and took part in lots of activities before enjoying a delicious hot chocolate with our friends.
We started by looking for some of our animal friends in the garden. We had to think about their habitats to help us to locate them. We looked up high to find Olly the Owl and looked low down and under some branches and leaves to find Holly the Hedgehog.
After that, we paired up to go on a scavenger hunt around the garden, looking for different natural items including twigs, stones and a birch tree.
Then it was time to help to get the fire ready. We put the logs in the fire pit, helped to chop some kindling and stacked it on top of the logs. Some people helped to turn our cotton wool into clouds which we used to start the fire. We sang songs with our friends and joined in with the retelling of Jack and the Beanstalk before enjoying a delicious hot chocolate!
This term Nursery are developing their ball skills, in week one the children used tennis balls to practice their throwing and rolling skills. In week two the children used footballs to practice their control of the ball, using their hands and feet to guide the ball around the hall, before in pairs rolling and bouncing the balls to each other with control.
This week Nursery have celebrated science week by doing two fantastic experiments. In our first experiment the children chose two primary colours to squeeze into their plastic cups, the children then mixed the colours together to create a new colour, the children were amazed at the colours they created. Then the children painted a wonderful picture with their new fabulous colours.
In the next experiment the children had lots of different resources and two tubs of water, the children had to guess whether the items would float or sink, the children loved throwing the items into the water and seeing if they guessed correctly.
In today’s forest school, we looked at a non-fiction book about birds, which listed some ways we can attract birds to our garden and some interesting ways to provide food for them to enjoy. We made two different types of bird feeders; we threaded Cheerios on to pipe cleaners and rolled tubes in bird seed. We decided which tree to place them in and we are looking forward to seeing if any come to visit for a snack!
After a fun morning making some snacks for the birds, we made a snack on the fire. We toasted some bread, before deciding on our topping. We used the utensils to spread our jam or chocolate spread before sitting down with our friends to enjoy our treat.
For the last two weeks Nursery have been enjoying exploring and learning all about AB and ABB patterns. The children enjoyed exploring around our school looking for patterns. The children then worked on making their own AB and ABB patterns.
This week our concept cat word is ādayā, the children had a look at our outdoor garden to see what they could see in the day, the children explained that they could see the sun and the clouds, the birds and airplanes and the trees and flowers. The children were then asked to draw a still life picture of what they could see in the day. The children created some beautiful pictures of our garden.
The children explored our world this week, we discussed what country we live in and what city. We then had a look at some familiar landmarks around our city, the children loved explaining if they have ever been to these landmarks, then we had a look at the radio city tower which we can see from our Nursery garden. The children were so excited to see something familiar and we had a look at it from our garden. The children then decorated some lovely worlds.
We enjoyed listening to a story called ‘The Flower Thief’ which explained some of the signs that we might look out for in the garden and at home to show us that Spring is here. We used the petals and leaves from flowers such as tulips, gerberas and daffodils to create a piece of art. We then used hammers to transfer the dye from the flowers to the fabric.
After a busy session, we made our own pizza pockets. We filled wholemeal pitta breads with toppings including; pizza sauce, cheese, tomatoes and peppers before putting them on the fire to cook. It was great to see some children trying and tasting some new ingredients.
Nursery had a wonderful time visiting the farm, where the children were excited to see a variety of animals and their babies. They enjoyed observing the animals up close, learning their names, and talking about how to care for them. It was a lovely hands-on experience that sparked curiosity and supported their understanding of the natural world.
This week the children have celebrated Easter with lots of fun activities, they have created some wonderful easter cards and pictures, made some delicious rice crispy cakes and had a very special visit from the Easter Bunny after our Easter Egg hunt!
As part of our Diversity Day this term, our nursery children explored the poem āAll The Ways To Shine.āĀ Through discussions, we talked about how everyone is different and what makes each of us unique and special. The children shared their favourite things and expressed these through their drawings, celebrating their individuality. The children were proud to showcase their work and their performance of the poem in the school assembly, reminding them that the world is brighter when we can all be ourselves.
In RE today the children learnt all about special places to Christians which is a church, then they created some lovely stained glass windows and churches independently in small groups.
This week in our maths we have been exploring length of long and short, in our whole class activities we have measured lengths of snakes, lengths of cars in traffic jams and teddy bear heights.
In small groups the children have created their own snakes and measured them against cube towers, measured items in the garden and explained if they are long or short and measured items against the size of the children’s hands and explained if the item was longer or shorter than their hands.
Today in our music lesson with Mrs Grindley, the children sang the wheels on the bus so confidently whilst Mrs Grindley played her guitar. What superstar singers!

This afternoon the children discussed what ways they travel to school, some children said that they walk or catch the bus. Then in a directed activity the children then drew beautiful pictures of how they travel to school independently.
This term Nursery are focusing on games in our PE lessons, in our first week we played stopping and starting games like red light green light.
For the second week the children played a game of find the airport, the children had to become airplanes and find a spot to sit down on. Then the children played catching and throwing games.
This week Nursery and Reception had the chance to buy some yummy cakes donated by pupils in the school to raise funds for Shy Lowen. The Reception school council children were all hands on deck to help give out the cakes. What a lovely treat.
This week in forest school we enjoyed activities in the sunshine. We started with a scavenger hunt for items that matched descriptions . After that we worked together to peel, slice and core apples before mixing them with sultanas, cinnamon and a sprinkle of sugar. Whilst they were cooking on the fire we used a whisk to make our cream topping.

This week Nursery visited Calderstones Park as we explored signs of spring, we looked for lovely new flowers that have bloomed, trees that have started to grow their leaves and we saw lots of minibeast. We also heard lots of beautiful singing from the birds in the trees. Then we had a lovely rest in the sunshine to have a yummy cake and a quick play on the playground before heading back to school. What a lovely afternoon.

A story about a fussy king who canāt find a good cook until he meets the timid Wobbly Bob, who is afraid of everything, leading the king to help him overcome his fears on a culinary adventure to make his favourite meal.

The children read the story āJack and the Beanstalkā in our NELI sessions, through learning special words linked to the story ādecide, swap, follow and yellā. The children had lots of fun choosing in their self directed choosing time. They had a go at retelling the story using props in the tuff tray, measuring the beanstalks, building castles with foamy ācloudsā and junk modelling a fantastic castle.
This week the Nursery children have had lots of opportunities to exercise their fine motor skills, they enjoyed using the pipets to squeeze the colourful water onto the dot patterns. Then the children created some amazing patterns using the paint and their hand control. Then some of the children created some potato heads using their fine motor skills to push the features into the potato.
In our Nursery we always express how to be a kind friend, especially when a new friend joins our Nursery. We had a class discussion about what makes a kind friend, the children thought up some of their own ideas of how to be a kind friend and we had some pictures to help us explain to be a good friend. The children then decorated some friend shaped people and we placed them on our classroom window to always remind us of how to be a kind friend.
Our second stay and play group enjoyed time in the garden, taking part in some forest school activities. The children and some of their parents enjoyed making nature bracelets, flower art and they used the fire to toast some bread. The children enjoyed showing the parents their knowledge of how to stay safe around the fire before helping to prepare the kindling and lighting the fire with the flint and steel.
In small groups this week the children have played animal bingo, the children pulled animals out of the bag then the children had to say the name of the animal and then match with the picture card on the mat, the person with the most animals matched had to shout BINGO!
This week, Nursery had a special visitor who came to talk to the children about the importance of looking after our teeth. The children learned how to brush their teeth correctly, which foods help keep teeth healthy, and why visiting the dentist is important. It was a fun and interactive session that helped the children understand how to keep their smiles clean and healthy!
This week in Nursery, the children have been enjoying the story āFranklin FrogāĀ during our NELI sessions. We explored the story through a range of fun activities, including painting frog paper plates, investigating frogs in the water tray, and creating frog life cycles through cutting and sticking.
Our special words this week were grow, push, jump, and protect, and the children have been practising using these new words during their play and discussions. It has been a fantastic week full of creativity, language development, and learning about the life cycle of frogs.
During choose time, the Nursery children enjoyed exploring a range of African instruments, discovering the different sounds and rhythms they could make. In music time, the children listened and moved to African beats, using drums to copy rhythms and create their own music together. It was a lively and engaging experience that encouraged creativity, listening skills, and an appreciation of different cultures through music.
It was a very warm day in the garden so we went to visit the fire when the fire pit was ready to cook on. Today we made cheese toasties, we sang songs around the fire pit whilst we waited for them to cook.
