Making sound in Science

Today we used a drum and rice to make sound in Science. When you hit a drum, it vibrates. These vibrations make the air around the drum move, creating sound waves that travel to your ears. If you put rice on the drum, you can see the vibrations more clearly. When the drum is hit, the rice jumps and moves because the drum skin is shaking. This shows that sound is made by vibrations, even when we cannot see them. We recorded this in slow motion to be able to see how much the rice moves on the drum.
