In RE Reception have been learning all about special places, this week they have learnt about churches and what inside a church looks like, the children created some fantastic stained glass windows inspired pictures.
Reception have also learnt about Ramadan this week and celebrate the beginning of Ramadan the children created some beautiful lanterns.
The class continued their art topic this afternoon, making sketches of natural objects such as shells, pine cones and fruit!
The class completed their plaster cast sculptures this afternoon! The children moulded their clay then plaster of Paris was poured. After the pieces had set, the finishing touches of paint were added!
For world book day this year Reception read the story ‘A Seeds Grows’ which is a non-fiction story about how seeds grow from a seed and germinate to push through the soil to grow into a wonderful flower. The children created a poster about a lifecycle of a flower and what flowers need to grow. the children also created some fantastic flower pictures and some paper flower crafts.
This term Reception explored the artist Vincent Van Gogh and his amazing paintings, the children explained what they they liked or didn’t like about the paintings and then the children had a go at creating their own pictures and paintings inspired by Vincent Van Gogh.
Reception were invited to a forest school session at Liverpool John Moores and the children had so much fun some of the activities they did included creating clay creatures and building dens with students who are training to be teachers.
This term Reception are looking at special places within different religions, this week Reception explored what a special place for a Muslim was and they looked around a Mosque online to see what a special place it is and why people go to mosques. The children the coloured in some beautiful prints that can be found in a mosque.
Class 2 really enjoyed our art topic on photography. We tried to create our own photographs using natural resources we found round our school grounds. We enjoyed placing objects on special paper and exposing the paper to sunlight, created blue images called cyanotypes.
After beginning our research on Anthony Gormley, we have been inspired to make our own figures using similar techniques with wire and clay. We thought about different positions we could bend our wire bodies into, taking photographs of our friends to use as a reference.
Reception have been drawing some fantastic pictures this week in Art of our garden area, the children have had a look around our garden and we have taken pictures of the areas and then drawn pictures of what we can see from the pictures. The pictures turned out brilliant.
Our families joined us to play, we explored the nursery and the children were able to show their families what new things they have learnt and currently learning about.
We went to see Antony Gormley exhibition “ Another Place” in Crosby beach.
Reception class enjoyed a lovely outdoor learning session in the school garden. Armed with clipboards and pencils, the children observed the plants, flowers, and insects around them and created wonderful drawings based on what they saw. It was a great opportunity to explore nature and practise their observational skills in a fun, hands-on way.
Today in art we went outside and looked for natural objects. We made a picture of using the natural objects.
Class 6 have been learning all about graffiti art and this morning we took a tour to look at some local artwork. We talked about the artwork, the artists and the messages we thought the artwork was giving us. We then created some work in pairs to show which pieces we liked and write our own opinions of why we liked them.
This week Reception explored the artwork of Gustav Klimt and how he used lots of different shapes and patterns within his art. The children had a go at creating their very own art work inspired by the artist.
The class studied the work of Julian Opie today before creating their own self-portraits in the same style.
In Nursery this week, we explored the story Marvellous Me! The children enjoyed thinking about what makes them special and unique. Using mirrors, they carefully looked at their features and created wonderful self-portraits. We finished by talking together about all the reasons why we are marvellous – from being kind friends to trying our best every day!
All About Me!
Our nursery children have been celebrating everything that makes them special. We shared stories and conversations about ourselves—our faces, favourite things, and what makes each of us unique.
Using natural treasures from our garden walk that we found, we created fantastic faces using leaves, twigs, and stones from the garden to create beautiful self-portraits. Inspired by Billy and the Big New School, they explored different facial expressions and how our feelings can show on our faces by sticking and gluing different facial expressions on to portraits pictures.
To finish our “all about me” adventure, everyone designed a delicious pancake face using breakfast items and fresh fruit—smiles you could eat! What a wonderful way to learn about who we are while being creative, curious, and proud of ourselves.
This term we are looking at Van Gogh. We have enjoyed researching all of his past creations and looking into his history. We have been using a variety of techniques including brushes and investigating the kinds of marks which can be made.
This week we’ve been exploring our own family histories, inspired by the story Owl Babies, which celebrates the comfort of family and belonging. The nursery children talked about the people who are important to them and how families can be the same or different over time.
Using lolly sticks, they carefully built little houses and then drew their families inside, sharing stories about parents, grandparents, and siblings. It was a lovely way to connect our learning about families in the past and present while celebrating what makes each home special.
In Busy Bee’s the children took part in a step by step drawing activity, they all worked really hard and were super supportive about their friends artwork.
This week we have been reading The Rainbow Fish, the children designed their own fish and put their very own shiny scales on just like the story.
This week, our Nursery children have been learning about Diwali, the Festival of Lights. They explored the celebration by creating beautiful patterns and decorating their own Diya lamp paper plates with bright colours, glitter, and sequins. The children enjoyed talking about light, colour, and celebration, helping them to learn more about different traditions and festivals from around the world.
Today we started a new topic in Art. We did some research on a very famous artist called Gustav Kilmt born in 1862, from Austria. We discussed what type of art he was known for these were things like landscapes , and portraits .He used different styles like repeated patterns and swirls in his artwork.
Our Nursery children had a wonderful time creating fantastic Bonfire Night pictures using glitter glue, paints, and loose parts to make bright, sparkling fireworks. They enjoyed watching a firework display and an information video to learn more about how people celebrate Bonfire Night. Afterwards, the children talked together about how to stay safe when watching fireworks and sparklers. It was a fun, creative, and colourful week full of excitement and learning!
The children completed excellent research on our artist Yayoi Kasuma this afternoon.
In art today we made our own drawing using techniques used by the famous artists Gustav Klimt.
Today we did the Make task in our Art for this term. We got to choose between Henri Rousseau and Beatriz Milhazes.
Some of us chose Henri Rousseau. First, we looked at his jungle paintings and noticed his bright colours, bold shapes, and the way he layered plants to make the scene look deep and mysterious. Then we designed our own jungle pictures, adding leaves, animals, and patterns just like Rousseau. We used our imagination to make our artwork feel magical, just like his.
The rest of us chose Beatriz Milhazes. We looked at how she uses bright colours, bold shapes, and repeating patterns to make her art feel lively and joyful. Then we created our own designs using circles, swirls, and colourful layers. We experimented with patterns and chose vibrant colours to make our artwork stand out, just like Milhazes’ energetic style.
This week our story of the week was Stick Man. The children enjoyed a range of creative activities inspired by the story. They made their own special sticks by carefully wrapping colourful wool around them, and they also created bird feeders using Cheerios and pipe cleaners to help look after the birds in our garden. We painted wonderful Stick Man pictures and spent time talking about Stick Man’s family, leading to lovely conversations about the people who make up our own families. It has been a week full of creativity, imagination, and meaningful discussions.
This week we enjoyed taking part in a digital art lesson using the iPads. The children navigated a program clicking and swiping the images then using a digital pencil chose different colours to carefully decorate a Christmas picture.

For our last few weeks of school the children have been listening to the story ‘The Jolly Christmas Postman’ by Allan Ahlberg and Janet Ahlberg. The children have loved writing postcards and Christmas Cards and letters.
The children have also enjoyed joining to do some fantastic Christmas activities in our stay and play session and at our party day.
🎨 Year 3 Art this term 🎨
We’re exploring the work of Etel Adnan, looking at how artists use colour, line and text to express ideas. Children will research artists and create their own leoporello (folded) art books inspired by things important to them. 🖌️📖
Year 3 had a creative afternoon exploring warm and cool colours 🎨 They discussed emotions linked to colour and began choosing shades and materials for their leporello work.
In Art we are learning about Tessellations and comparing them to some Islamic Art that we already know and have saw before. This was interesting to see the comparison and how they make them. We used different shapes in different positions to make our tessellation work.
We have been focusing on printing this term for our craft table, we have used sponges and rollers to create some fantastic prints, using out fine motor skills to squash the sponges into the paint and then on to the paper. Lots of messy fun.
For our first NELI story Nursery read the story ‘Neon Leon’ which explores being different in the jungle and finding a place where Leon belongs. The children created some beautiful pictures of Neon Leon and we played a matching game to match the toy jungle animals with the real life picture of the jungle animal, the children did an amazing job!
Last week we read the story ‘Don’t wake up Tiger!’ in our NELI sessions, our focus words were ‘float’ ‘hurry’ ‘stroke’ and ‘worry’. Some activities we did this week include floating items in water and seeing which items float or don’t float. We also created some wonderful tiger pictures and wrote some cards for Tigers birthday. Before we were invited to Tigers birthday party where we had an amazing party.
Nursery had a fantastic time celebrating Chinese New Year. The children enjoyed making colourful lanterns, tasting delicious noodles, and watching exciting dragon dances. We also went to visit the beautiful Chinese arch, which helped us learn more about the traditions and celebrations. It was a wonderful opportunity to explore a different culture through creativity, food, and movement.
Following research of cast sculptures, the children spent the afternoon sketching natural objects.
The class enjoyed the design process this morning before further work on their cast sculptures.
We looked at a different selection of cameras and discussed them as a class. We thought of some questions to ask Miss Kurs related to photography. She told us about her photography degree and the process of taking photographs.
Today was World Book Day and we read a story about Robin Hood. This was fun to learn about a new story and see the difference in the book compared to the original story. We had lots of fun dressing up as our favourite characters. After we read the story, we made Robin Hood hats to take home.

Nursery have been learning all about Ramadan and Eid this week, the children watched an information video about how Muslims celebrate Eid. The children then created these fantastic lanterns in our directed activity and mehndi patterns in choose.
Class 2 put all their photography learning into place by visiting the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King to take photographs. They thought about their subject, background and how to position the camera to get the best photograph.
The children in Reception have explored a range of different creative activities both indoors and outdoors such as drawing with chalk, paint sticks, pens, crayons and paint.We have also experienced different types of media and used natural materials to make pictures and patterns.

Today we had a lovely time visiting the forest school facilities at Liverpool John Moores University. The children enjoyed building a den, collecting sticks, filling bird feeders, playing games on the field and taking part in a treasure hunt to find different natural materials. What a lovely morning !

This week Nursery have celebrated science week by doing two fantastic experiments. In our first experiment the children chose two primary colours to squeeze into their plastic cups, the children then mixed the colours together to create a new colour, the children were amazed at the colours they created. Then the children painted a wonderful picture with their new fabulous colours.
In the next experiment the children had lots of different resources and two tubs of water, the children had to guess whether the items would float or sink, the children loved throwing the items into the water and seeing if they guessed correctly.
This term we have been researching the artist William Morris and creating artwork inspired by his beautiful prints. We designed various types of art from our own patterns to illuminated letters. For our final piece we created a print design then block printed it using different skills like carving and rolling the paint to build our repeated patterns. We finished by evaluating our work to see what worked well and what we may change next time.
Today the children used watercolour paints and pencils to create images of The Big bad wolf and Little Red. We talked about the characters in the story and discussed the colours and style that the illustrator had used to make the images in the book.

This week our concept cat word is ‘day’, the children had a look at our outdoor garden to see what they could see in the day, the children explained that they could see the sun and the clouds, the birds and airplanes and the trees and flowers. The children were then asked to draw a still life picture of what they could see in the day. The children created some beautiful pictures of our garden.
The children explored our world this week, we discussed what country we live in and what city. We then had a look at some familiar landmarks around our city, the children loved explaining if they have ever been to these landmarks, then we had a look at the radio city tower which we can see from our Nursery garden. The children were so excited to see something familiar and we had a look at it from our garden. The children then decorated some lovely worlds.
We enjoyed listening to a story called ‘The Flower Thief’ which explained some of the signs that we might look out for in the garden and at home to show us that Spring is here. We used the petals and leaves from flowers such as tulips, gerberas and daffodils to create a piece of art. We then used hammers to transfer the dye from the flowers to the fabric.
Today was our last lesson of our Houses on stilts. We got to make our final piece and do our evaluation of how we found this experience. We had lots of cool designs for our houses like treehouses and houses with pools.
The children have learnt some interesting facts about an artist called Vincent Van Gogh. We looked at a painting called Sunflowers which was intended to convey gratitude. Then we discussed the use of colour, form and textures in his artistic style. Finally the children drew pictures using their own interpretation of the Sunflower painting.

Architecture
Year 3 are getting creative in Art this term with their topic “Down Our Streets (Architecture)” 🏙️🎨
They’ll be exploring how buildings are designed and constructed, taking inspiration from architects like Zaha Hadid, Antoni Gaudí and Hundertwasser. We will experiment with materials, colour, texture and pattern to create their own 3D structures.
Using sketchbooks to develop ideas, they’ll design, build and evaluate their work—just like real architects!
We have been listening to a story called The Extraordinary Gardener by Sam Boughton, today the children looked at the illustrations in the text talking about the colours,flowers and plants in the story. Then we took some art materials into the school allotment area to draw our own pictures of the flowers and plants in our garden. The children were very excited using their sense to explore the area with their friends.

Year 3 enjoyed a fantastic walk along Hope Street, exploring the amazing architecture along the way! 🏙️
We started at the Metropolitan Cathedral and made our way to the Philharmonic Hall, spotting and discussing all the different buildings we could see. A great mix of history, design and curiosity! 👣✨
In RE today the children learnt all about special places to Christians which is a church, then they created some lovely stained glass windows and churches independently in small groups.
Today we began our practical of our Art topic where we are making sculptures. We made the base for them today using wire, styrofoam balls and tinfoil. This helped us to create the position we want the sculptures in.
Today we designed our sculptures and began to add our clay to them. This was very messy but we enjoyed it a lot.
This afternoon the children discussed what ways they travel to school, some children said that they walk or catch the bus. Then in a directed activity the children then drew beautiful pictures of how they travel to school independently.
Today we did our final task in Art. We made our finishing touches to our sculptures and talked about what we liked about this topic.
The children read the story ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ in our NELI sessions, through learning special words linked to the story ‘decide, swap, follow and yell’. The children had lots of fun choosing in their self directed choosing time. They had a go at retelling the story using props in the tuff tray, measuring the beanstalks, building castles with foamy ‘clouds’ and junk modelling a fantastic castle.
In our Nursery we always express how to be a kind friend, especially when a new friend joins our Nursery. We had a class discussion about what makes a kind friend, the children thought up some of their own ideas of how to be a kind friend and we had some pictures to help us explain to be a good friend. The children then decorated some friend shaped people and we placed them on our classroom window to always remind us of how to be a kind friend.
Our second stay and play group enjoyed time in the garden, taking part in some forest school activities. The children and some of their parents enjoyed making nature bracelets, flower art and they used the fire to toast some bread. The children enjoyed showing the parents their knowledge of how to stay safe around the fire before helping to prepare the kindling and lighting the fire with the flint and steel.
This week in Nursery, the children have been enjoying the story ‘Franklin Frog’ during our NELI sessions. We explored the story through a range of fun activities, including painting frog paper plates, investigating frogs in the water tray, and creating frog life cycles through cutting and sticking.
Our special words this week were grow, push, jump, and protect, and the children have been practising using these new words during their play and discussions. It has been a fantastic week full of creativity, language development, and learning about the life cycle of frogs.
For Diversity Day, the Nursery children enjoyed exploring and celebrating our similarities and differences. We began by looking at a variety of fruits and discussing our favourites, discovering that some of us liked the same fruits while others had different preferences. We then shared the story Red Rockets and Rainbow Jelly, which helped us think about how friends can enjoy some of the same things while also having their own unique interests.
The children talked about how they were dressed, noticing similarities and differences between themselves and their friends. They then used photographs of themselves to create pictures and share things they like. Together, we discussed what we have in common and what makes us unique, learning that our differences are something to celebrate and that everyone belongs in our Nursery community.
In our Topic today we discussed our Zones of Regulation to help our teddy friend who was not sure of how to express their feelings. The children helped teddy to match the correct feeling with the correct zone colour, we then practiced some different emotion faces in a mirror making happy, sad, angry or silly faces before creating our very own feelings plate.
The children researched the artist Chila Burman to start their topic before giving opinions on her work.
The class experimented with colours and textures this afternoon for their design stage.
Class 6 have been on a graffiti masterclass this week. Making their mark on the street art scene. They have learnt new skills in the art of graffiti and know the difference between commissioned and illegal street art. Take a look at our fantastic work below, with a positive, inspiring message (voted for by class 6) and keep a look out for our final piece on display at our leavers assembly next month.
Today Class 6 took a tour around South Liverpool to take a look at the different styles of street art and the artists behind them. We discussed what we thought their inspiration was and the messages the artwork was giving us. Mr Curry talked about the history and origins of the Secretary Bird and we talked about the similarities between that and our very own Liver Birds.
Finally we were so lucky (and excited) to get to meet two of the well-known street artists we have been studying in our Art lessons…John Culshaw and Liam Bononi! We got to ask them some questions and they told us why they started street art and how long they’d been doing it for, along with their inspiration and how they paint their images on a huge scale. It was such an amazing experience to get to meet and question the artists we have been researching. How lucky are we!
In art this term we are looking at an artist called Richard Long. Class one went into nursery garden to collect objects like bark, sticks, shells and leaves for our art work.
Today class one had a go at creating art work. They enjoyed looking at each others work and came up with really good ideas.
This week the children in Nursery have been discussing what foods are healthy and unhealthy, as a class we chose healthy and unhealthy foods to put into the correct lunch boxes, then we had a go at decorating our very own healthy food plates for our snack room display. We will continue to discuss healthy and unhealthy foods at snack time.
We used a small amount of clay to experiment some techniques we have learnt. We rolled the clay, carved details, smoothed, pinched and joined pieces of clay together. We are excited to follow our designs and make our own sculptures.
This week we are celebrating water safety week in our Nursery. In class we enjoyed learning the rules of being safe in and near the water. We watched a PowerPoint from Ruff the Dog, Choppy the Cat and Stormy Stan on why we need to follow the rules and what to do if we get into trouble in the water. Then we had a go at decorating some life rings and the children received a certificate for the training we did in school.
Class 1 visited Formby Beach for our end of year trip, we did some amazing art work like Richard Long and then looked at the coast.
We worked together as team to make some play-doh which we used later in the day to create some natural art work. The children measured out the ingredients using cups, helped to stir and bind the mixture together before leaving it to cool. In the afternoon, they rolled out balls of dough which they used to take impressions of items in our outdoor areas. Once the pattern had transferred to the dough, they placed it on the ink pads and printed them on paper.
This week in Nursery, the children have been enjoying our NELI story, Look and Say What You See in the Countryside. The children explored the different animals, plants, and features found in the countryside, using new vocabulary to describe what they could see. In our directed activity the children had a go at drawing an animal and their homes, some children drew spiders and their webs and others drew deer and the countryside. This week we have also had an exciting delivery that links with our text and mini beast! We now have 5 caterpillars to watch and look after as the children learn all about lifecycles of animals.
We worked in pairs to dissect some flowers before placing them between kitchen roll and cardboard. We worked together to tighten the flower press and we are looking forward to seeing if they dry out so that we can used them to create some art work.
This week our NELI story is ‘Stardust’ by Jeanne Willis and Briony May Smith. As we look back at some historical figures we linked Vincent Van Gogh and his famous painting of the Starry Night with our NELI Story. The children loved learning all about Van Gogh and his famous paintings. The children then had a go at recreating Van Gogh ‘Starry Night’.

This week, Class 6 took a short trip to Hope Street where we studied perspective. We had some interesting discussions about how we see streets, roads, buildings and objects at different angles and positions along our route.
This week for Literacy Nursery have been reading the story ‘Owl Babies’, we have discussed who lives in the Owl Family and who lives in our families and what type of house we live in. We then created our family houses using lolly sticks and then drew pictures of our families inside the houses.
This week the Nursery children have been very creative making lovely owl paper plates for our story, ‘Owl Babies’. The children decorated and stuck shapes to the paper plates to make their very own owls.
