43We had a very special visitor in school on party day, every class had the opportunity to visit the grotto and they left with some gifts.
233In class 5 we found a strange bag in the class cupboard. We found lots of different items inside the bag. Maybe this is a clue for our new English book? We made predictions on what we think the book might be about.
49Today in class we learned about forces. We made paper airplanes to see how the different forces would effect the distance our airplanes would travel.
37This morning Class 5 investigated how Morse code is used. Children created a presentation about Morse code and why it is used. We then looked at what a Crumble is, children then programmed the crumble to play a message in Morse Code.
43Today we carried on learning about forces in science. We tested out how friction can stop us from pulling the books apart. We also made parachutes and experimented on how slow or fast our parachutes fall because of air resistance.
35Today we discussed about different places of worship. We learnt about Hinduism, Judaism and Christianity.
50For science day we had a special visit from Mr Stanley. We enjoyed watching Mr Stanley perform lots of different exciting experiments. We learned lots of new things about solids, liquids and gasses and much more!
193We went to Formby to learn about levers, pulleys and gears. We had a fun day and we learnt very interesting facts.
We have been building our own fairgrounds using pulleys applying our knowledge from Science.
44In English today we did some drama to understand how the characters of our story will feel when they see the gargantuan beast.
In Science today we started our new topic- Animals, including humans. We ordered the life cycle of a human.
31We researched and created PowerPoints to present what we learnt about WWW (World Wide Web) and the Internet.
Y5 have been looking at the Internet and its uses in Computing. They used powerpoint to present their information.
Today we practiced how to write and how to say which hobbies we like and we do not.
Today we worked in two teams to gather information about Democracy and The Olympics. We presented it to the rest of the class.
This morning Class 5 was introduced to Sketchup. Children logged onto the website and started to create a new model. We focused on some of the different features such as the rectangle tool, two point arc tool, push & pull tool, orbit and fill tool that you can use in Sketchup when creating models. Children used the different design features to create their own house.
35Thank you to our visitors teaching us the importance of staying safe in and around water. We learnt techniques how to keep ourselves safe and what to do if we see anyone in need of help.
179For diversity day, class 5 read the book “my strong mind” by Niels Van Have. The story is about a young girl who faces her own personal challenges by teaching her brain to have a positive mental attitude.
Today for Spanish we had a recap of what we have learnt so far. We talked about our name, age and a little bit about us and the things we like and dislike.
The class began some fantastic portraits this afternoon, in the style of the pop artist Julian Opie!
For collective worship, we looked at who is a part of our community and what makes us the same and as everyone in our school and what makes us different. We discussed the importance of respecting each other and treating people as how we want to be treated.
Today in STOPS maths we recapped on our number bonds to help us solve addition equations that equal to 100.
The children enjoyed a soup tasting session as part of their DT research. They gave their opinion on flavour, appearance and texture.
In preparation for our soup making, class 5 have been practicing cutting vegetables.🥒🥦🍅
The children became mini chefs this afternoon, preparing and making soup!

The class watched a 1Decision video this afternoon, about a young girl facing a difficult decision about smoking. The class felt the girl should refuse the offer of a cigarette.
Class 5 played “Body popping skeleton” on the glockenspiels focusing on the beat and patterns.
Class 5 measured and cut out 15cm squares ready for our experiment. We used aluminium foil, paper and bubble wrap.
We used our knowledge of the parts of the parts of the body to help us talk about what part of the body hurts.

Lots of interesting items have arrived on Class 5 topic table! There are lots of clues to what our topic is!
For listen and appraise class 5 listened to Antonio Rossini who was an Italian composer.
The class had an interesting discussion and debate this afternoon about whether smoking should be banned and if advertisements for E-cigarettes are wrong.
Class 5 conducted an experiment today in science looking at which material is the best insulator using cubes of ice. We looked at paper, bubble wrap and tin foil and wrapped the chosen material around a cube an ice then measured how much ice was left after a certain amount of time. The material that kept the most ice was the best insulator.
In History this afternoon, the children examined a variety of statements describing reasons why the Anglo Saxons came to Britain. They had to think carefully about whether each reason was likely or unlikely!
Today’s listen and appraise session was the instantly recognisable sound of Beethoven, the children enjoying the stirring sound of the violin in Symphony No.5.
The children tasted what life was like for the Anglo Saxons, with a visit to Mere Tun, at Martin Mere. The class experienced settlement life – practising weapons skills, thatching, weaving and foraging.
In science, class 5 have been investigating what happens when we add salt to water to make a salt solution and what happens when we add too much salt. We looked at what soluble and insoluble means.
The children learned to use the filter tool in a database to search and sort information in an efficient manner.
We filtered a mixture of sand and water using a funnel and filter paper and when we poured the sand into the filter paper we were left with a sand residue.
The children gave a great performance this afternoon as they completed their assembly all about staying safe and speaking out to a safe adult!
The children became history detectives, looking at images of objects found at a mysterious burial site at Sutton Hoo. They came to the conclusion that they belonged to a King or an important person.
The children welcome visitors from the NSPCC to learn all about staying safe and they met Buddy, the special mascot who encourages children to speak out to a trusted adult.
The children enjoyed a fun sports session at LJMU Sports Hall, taking part in different activities that tested skill and teamwork!
The class produced some wonderfully detailed and illustrated information leaflets this afternoon, to demonstrate their learning of our Anglo Saxon topic!
The children produced a great assembly speaking about the Windrush Generation, using the book ‘Coming to England’.
The class held a wonderful P4C session today using Floella Benjamin’s book ‘Coming to England’ as our stimulus. The children decided on the question ‘Is it ever ok to have an opinion if it means hurting somebody’s feelings?’
Class 5 enjoyed an exciting day of experiments at the University of Liverpool for a Spooky Science event. The children looked under microscopes, made potions, learned about antibodies and watched a dangerous experiment!
The class thoroughly enjoyed beginning their new P.E. Unit today – line dancing! They practiced different step moves and worked in groups supporting each other brilliantly.
The Year 5 line dancing moves were taking shape today! The children practised mirroring each other, working well with a partner.
The class enjoyed the more upbeat sounds of Louis Jordan this afternoon, with the strangely titled ‘Ain’t nobody here but us chickens’.
The children learned important facts this morning about brushing teeth and the dangers of sugar! Did you know after brushing teeth you should spit not rinse your mouth out? The class even danced for the duration of teeth brushing! Well done sugar detectives!
The children demonstrated how variables are used today, by playing a times tables quiz – by using names to track scores, they understood how variables are used in programming.
Our yoga session this week had lots of difficult stretching movements, but the class showed lots of determination!
The class worked ever so well this afternoon, creating dance sequences for different phases in our Line Dancing unit of work.
Class 5 have enjoyed a lovely morning at Birkenhead park for their geography topic. We looked at finding links with North America and discovering that the park was the inspiration for Central Park in New York.
The class worked really hard to identify the top ten and bottom ten American states by population.
Another fantastic yoga session this afternoon, the children made excellent poses!
The class listened to the smooth voice of Nat King Cole this afternoon, ‘Autumn Leaves’.
Class 5 have been learning about contact forces and non-contact forces. We used different materials such as balloons, ping pong balls and marbles to demonstrate this.
The children worked so hard this afternoon in their final yoga session of the term, practising the chair pose – excellent balance and strength shown!
An excellent end to our line dancing topic this half term, the children working in pairs and groups to complete their sequences.
We learnt about the history of jazz music and had lots of fun attempting to play some Jazz music on the glockenspiels.
For Diversity Day we read the book “Night Shift” by Debi Gliori. The book shows us how depression and affect an individuals life and how they see things. The girl faces many difficulties however shows us there is an escape although it may not be easy.
20The children have been learning about in app purchases. The class watched a decision video about a young boy facing the difficult decision of buying an in app purchase. The class agreed the boy shouldn’t buy any in app purchases without the permission of his parents.
The class have been learning about abstract nouns and have made some great sentences!
For this weeks listen and appraise we listened to “La Bamba” by Ritchie Valens.
The children were able to label the features of different types of footwear before looking at different slipper designs! A great start to our DT topic!
The class practised different stitches this afternoon, the running stitch, overstitch and blanket stitch. There were some wonderful examples made using binka material.
Class 5 have been exploring different notes used in Jazz and had great fun improvising!
The children learnt about different types of forces including air resistance, friction and gravity. We demonstrated friction by having two books intertwined together and tried to pull them apart. We also made paper airplanes to show air resistance and gravity and we discussed which driving force is used.
In Computing, the class used different programmes for their Microbits! They remembered to download their code and used the correct buttons.
The children worked in groups this afternoon to match up different methods of transport with their names.
Another fantastic gymnastics lesson. We recapped how to position our bodies into different balances.
The children designed their slippers in their books today before cutting out their templates which will be stitched together.
We decided to spend the afternoon practising our sewing skills before making our slippers!
The children investigated the weight and mass of different objects using newtons and grams and compared the differences.
The class have been working super hard today multiplying 4D by 2D! Some excellent work🌟🌟
After design and practising skills, the class began making their slippers using their templates.
The children remembered the Holocaust and its victims and discussed why it’s important to remember this day.
Class 5 have started making parachutes for their exciting science experiment.

Class 5 have been working hard multiplying a mixed number by an integer!
We began our topic by thinking about what a place of worship is – we then looked at the features of a church.
An excellent discussion with the class this afternoon, discussing the similarities and differences between Hindu worship at home and in a Mandir.
We had fun in our final gymnastics lesson putting our skills to use!
The class read ‘The Thing’ for Diversity Day, using it as a stimulus to discuss discrimination and differences. Our P4C question was ‘ Is it ever ok to hide who you truly are?
The children were so pleased to begin their yoga sessions with Georgia again this half term!
The class continued their art topic this afternoon, making sketches of natural objects such as shells, pine cones and fruit!
The class were treated to a visit from Tony this afternoon, who helps look after bee hives in St John’s Centre in the city centre. The class were amazed by some of the facts they heard and even had the chance to taste some honey!
The class completed their plaster cast sculptures this afternoon! The children moulded their clay then plaster of Paris was poured. After the pieces had set, the finishing touches of paint were added!
The class listened carefully today about the theme of consent. We discussed that ‘no’ always means no!
The children produced fantastic storyboards this afternoon to help plan their animation.
We practiced verb prefixes during sentence accuracy time! Some great sentences⭐️
As a class, the children discussed the meaning of anger and how to manage anger positively. The children then wrote their ideas of how they manage this emotion and gave examples of their own.
Further work in the production studio this afternoon as the children thought of settings and scenes for their animation!
