Aquarium Trip

Reception had a fantastic time at the museum aquarium, as they explored all the animals that live under the sea. This links with our literacy story the storm whale.

Food For thought competition

Last term, Year 4 took part in a Competition where they had to write a recipe. Now, with Matthew’s help, we are cooking our recipes for the rest of the school.

Mystery Reader

A big thank you to one of our Nursery and Y1 parents, who surprised the children this afternoon as our Mystery Guest Reader. He read two wonderful books, singing songs and putting on different voices for the characters.

Spring Newsletter

A Trip to the Farm.

Reception had a lovely trip on their first day back after half term. We visited Farmer Teds farm as the class were learning all about farm animals, their mums and their babies and it linked with our literacy story ‘Mr Gumpy’s Outing’, when he collected lots of different farm animals along on his boat ride. The children were so excited to use their knowledge of animals and be able to link them with real life experiences.

Whilst at the farm the children enjoyed some fantastic activities including ferret racing, the Shaun the sheep show and exploring lots of minibeast.

Then of course the children had to have a go of the climb and slide.

Then after lunch Reception were able to explore more of the farm animals in their barns.

And finally have a go on the climbing frame and in the sand area. What a wonderful day.

Yoga club in the sun

Yoga club enjoyed their after school club in the sunshine today. Namaste.

Ancient Greece workshop

The children enjoyed looking at artefacts from Ancient Greece – sculptures of Gods, pottery, objects of daily life and weapons. The museum workshop was full of information about the past!

Reading Event at JMU – Frank Cottrell Boyce

Some pupils from Y4 and Y5 were very lucky to take part in a fantastic reading and author event at John Moores University, organised with Liverpool Learning Partnership. The children took part in a range of magical themed activities and tricks, worked with other schools to perform Reader’s Theatre and then had the opportunity to listen to and meet Frank Cottrell Boyce.

The theme of the event was magic as the event was celebrating Cottrell-Boyce’s text – The Wonder Brothers. The children were so grateful to receive a copy of the text to take home and they can’t wait to read the story as the extracts shared today had them hooked!

Geography – Rivers

The children enjoyed a trip to Kirkby and Hightown today to follow the course of the River Alt. They investigated the flow of the river and observed changes in the landscape as the River Alt made its way into the Irish Sea.

UKLA International Conference

A number of children from Year 4 and Year 6, were invited by John Moores University to present at the UK Literacy Conference last week. They spoke about Diversity across the curriculum and how they feel represented in reading. We are very proud of the way they spoke with confidence to delegates about the books they chose to share. They also confidently answered questions on reading and how it impacts them. A big thank you to John Moores for the opportunity and to Jo Tregenza, the President Elect of UKLA, who very kindly treated the children to their choice of text from the bookshop.

Family BBQ

A big thank you to everyone who attended our family BBQ last week. A great time was had by all and we managed to raise over £1000 which will help school funds. We were also able to make a donation to Shy Lowen Sanctuary, where lots of our children have attended over the years. We cannot wait until our next event.

Y6 Residential – Day One

The children have arrived safely at the residential and got stuck straight into their activities. Two groups enjoyed the challenge of Via Ferrata which involved navigating across an iron path. Group three demonstrated excellent team work, on the low ropes and zip wire. Before they go to bed the children are enjoying one final activity as a whole class, completing the night line walk.

Paddle boarding

All three groups took to the Menai Strait today to take part in some paddle boarding. Some great team work and communication on display as they navigated the water, encountering some jellyfish and lots of seaweed!

Via Ferrata

Another group took to the ropes today, taking on both routes on the Via Ferrata, a real test of skill and bravery. Well done everyone!

Low Ropes and Zip Line

A great time was had by all on the low ropes and on the zip line this afternoon after a delicious lunch.

Evening Mindfulness Activities

To finish off our day, we took a walk around the grounds taking in the beautiful views, listening to stories and finishing up with some pupils leading yoga.

Busy Bee’s 🐝

In Busy Bee’s the children took part in a step by step drawing activity, they all worked really hard and were super supportive about their friends artwork.

Levi Tafari

The children were treated to a special visit from Liverpool poet Levi Tafari this morning! He spoke about diversity, culture and history before performing some of his poetry.

We were very lucky to be visited by Levi Tafari and Jenny from LLP today. Our KS2 children enjoyed a fantastic assembly listening to a live poetry performance by Levi and discussions about diversity, inclusion and equality. Y6 then enjoyed a poetry workshop.

Anglo Saxon workshop

The children enjoyed a visit to the Museum of Liverpool, to learn about the daily life of Anglo Saxons and handle artefacts.

Class 6 Python Coding with Edublocks.

Over the past few lessons Class 6 have been investigating how to use Python coding, children have started off using Block based coding before moving on creating code using text. Children explored how to create different coloured backgrounds, use repeat loops to create shapes and use variables and lists to ask and answer questions.   

Forest School

We enjoyed spending some time exploring the forest school area in Nursery. We spoke about the safety procedures we need to follow when we enjoy a fire together in the future and found out the names of some of the tools we may use in the future. We are looking forward to taking part in more forest school activities soon.

Playtime

The children have enjoyed exploring and investigating our new playground area. The children enjoyed cooking in the mud kitchen or working together to create an obstacle course.

Planetarium

The class enjoyed a visit to the planetarium at the World Museum this morning. They wondered if there was life elsewhere in the universe.

Nursery Pumpkin Picking

Our Nursery children had a wonderful time visiting Hightown Pumpkin Patch this week! The children enjoyed exploring the fields, spotting pumpkins of all shapes, sizes, and colours, and learning how they grow. They loved choosing their own pumpkins to take back to school and talking about the signs of autumn they could see around them.

The trip was full of curiosity, laughter (after the rain), and hands on learning a perfect seasonal adventure to spark conversations about harvest, nature, and change.

Pumpkin Picking

Reception enjoyed our trip to Hightown Pumpkin Patch today. We searched in the rain and sunshine for pumpkins of different shapes and sizes before bringing some back to school.

The children counted how many, compared pumpkins of different shapes and sizes and worked together to pick them up to put them in our wheelbarrow. We had a great time talking about the things we could see both at the patch and on our way to the farm.

Diversity Day Assembly

This afternoon we enjoyed an assembly that celebrated some of the work classes completed on Diversity Day. Class Five explained the Windrush Generation after reading ‘Coming to England’ by Floella Benjamin. They considered the range of emotions that may have been felt on the journey to England and how the new arrivals to the country settled. Their performance and discussions were excellent and they made links to some of our school values; resilience, respect and resourcefulness.

Reception then performed a verse from the poem ‘I Rise’. We were very proud of how confident the children were reciting the poem with actions in front of the whole school.

Our assembly was completed by a pupil in Y6, who performed her own original poem, based on ‘I Rise’. Her thought-provoking words reminded people that they can achieve anything if they put their mind to it.

Mystery Guest Reader

Damo, a parent of one of the children in KS2 joined us to read two books about very special dogs. We enjoyed listening to Detective Dog and Hospital Dog by one of our favourite authors, Julia Donaldson. We enjoyed listening and talking about the stories together and we can’t wait to see who our next special guest will be. Cross Country – Cross Challenge Event

Well done to four of our pupils from Y5 and Y6 who represented Liverpool in the Cross Challenge Event at Sefton Park on Saturday 22nd November. We are very proud of your achievements!

Geography

As part of their North America topic, the class visited Birkenhead Park, which served as an inspiration for Central Park. Pupils used compasses and maps to locate various landmarks around the park.

A Trip to Lush with KIND

A number of children from Years 2-4 enjoyed a bath bomb making session at Lush, thanks to KIND. They made their own bath bombs and met Father Christmas. Thank you to both Lush and KIND for such a fun experience.

We had some very special visitors in school today . Class 2 learned some very interesting facts about reindeers. They also met Santa and told them what they would like for Christmas.

Help Your Child Thrive Course

Some of our parents are enjoying a course with Kerry Burns called ‘Help Your Child Thrive’. Sessions have looked at supporting parents so they can confidently support their child’s learning and development. We run regular courses and coffee mornings throughout the year please keep your eye on the school app for updates. We also welcome any suggestions from parents about courses or programs they would like school to consider hosting.

Mini Police station visit

The children visited the British Transport Police station this afternoon, seeing how officers work, including holding somebody in custody! Thank you to BTP for this great experience!

RE Visitor

Today we had two visitors in today to explain to us and help us understand why Christians call it Good Friday. This was very interesting to learn about the reasons why The Bible tells us certain stories and the history behind it all.

We got to talk through the story of Easter and then did activities to talk about how certain characters of the story might feel.

MUGA Grand Opening

We were joined by KIND owner, Stephen Yip and his extended family, who travelled across the country to visit their former primary school Pleasant Street. We celebrated the official opening of our state of the art Multi Use Games Area (MUGA). A massive thank you to KIND, for their significant donation, without which we would not have been able to create this wonderful resource for our children.

Mystery guest reader in the Early Years

Thank you to this weeks mystery guest reader Miss Jackson for visiting us in nursery to share a story called The Baddies by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. The children enjoyed listening to lovely story about a witch, a troll and a ghost who pride themselves on being mean but are outsmarted by a little girl.

Reward Trip Fun

A number of children were rewarded for their excellent behaviour this term and enjoyed a morning at the bowling alley.

Mini Police

The children welcomed Fred the police dog this afternoon, which demonstrated its skills on the playground – handler Steve explained how Fred uses scent to detect explosives. The children were also reminded of the impact of knife crime and the implications of carrying a knife.

Chinese New Year Celebrations 🐴🐲

Nursery had a fantastic time celebrating Chinese New Year. The children enjoyed making colourful lanterns, tasting delicious noodles, and watching exciting dragon dances. We also went to visit the beautiful Chinese arch, which helped us learn more about the traditions and celebrations. It was a wonderful opportunity to explore a different culture through creativity, food, and movement.

A trip to Chinatown for EYFS

We had a wonderful time visiting Chinatown to see the largest Chinese arch outside of China. The arch was imported from Shanghai in 2000 and is decorated with 200 dragons made from a mixture of wood and marble. The children noticed the lion statues that are on both side of the road bringing good fortune to visitors to the city.

Mini Police

The children received their certificates this afternoon for completing their mini police training. There were also 3 lucky winners for a sketching competition.

RE Visitor

Today we had our visitors in again to deliver another session about Easter. We watched a video and then played a game where we had to rescue the fish.

LSSP DADDR session

Today we had a visitor from LSSP to teach us about basic self defence skills and learnt what DADDR stands for, which is, Detect, Avoid, Defuse, Defend and Report. This taught us how to defend ourselves safely and calmly in order to not get hurt.

Starstruck

Class 6 were privileged to attend a book signing with the brilliant author Frank Cottrell-Boyce. We were treated to a book reading by Frank and he talked about his childhood and his inspirations before signing copies of his new book for us.

World Book Day 2026

World Book Day

Today was World Book Day and we read a story about Robin Hood. This was fun to learn about a new story and see the difference in the book compared to the original story. We had lots of fun dressing up as our favourite characters. After we read the story, we made Robin Hood hats to take home.

Today for World Book Day we had a book about Robin Hood but with a twist. We made Robin Hood hats as part of our activity after we read our book. This was lots of fun!

World Book Day

Class 6 looking great in their costumes today. We read a book called Three Little Vikings, a story about 3 brave little vikings who defeated a Monstrous Troll. We then designed a poster with our own Monster and created a plan inspired by a traditional tale before putting our own twist on it. Finishing the day with a fun game of kahoot based on….you guessed it, Fairy tales.

World Book Day

The children in Reception had a fantastic day celebrating World Book Day. We enjoyed dressing up as a story character and exploring the classroom which was filled with exciting fairy tale story activities. We made story bags, built the Three little pigs house, mixed porridge for Goldilocks, looked at story books, had a fairytale tea party in the home corner, went on a fairytale treasure hunt in the garden and made our own story books. Then Little Red came to visit us and answered lots of our questions about the Big bad wolf and Grandma. What an exciting day !

World Book Day

The children had a fantastic world book day, this year we celebrated fairytales and the children had a go at lots of wonderful fairytale activities in our choose time. The children then drew a missing poster for Goldilocks in our directed activity. The children had the best day. The children said ‘I loved to dress up and play cleaning up like Cinderella’.

World Book Day Winners

We were so impressed with the costumes that the children wore to celebrate World Book Day together. Our teachers had a very hard job, selecting a winner from each class. The children who were selected enjoyed a book buying trip and a delicious hot chocolate.

Forest School Session

We enjoyed a lovely forest school session and took part in lots of activities before enjoying a delicious hot chocolate with our friends.

We started by looking for some of our animal friends in the garden. We had to think about their habitats to help us to locate them. We looked up high to find Olly the Owl and looked low down and under some branches and leaves to find Holly the Hedgehog.

After that, we paired up to go on a scavenger hunt around the garden, looking for different natural items including twigs, stones and a birch tree.

Then it was time to help to get the fire ready. We put the logs in the fire pit, helped to chop some kindling and stacked it on top of the logs. Some people helped to turn our cotton wool into clouds which we used to start the fire. We sang songs with our friends and joined in with the retelling of Jack and the Beanstalk before enjoying a delicious hot chocolate!

World Book Day

For world book day we read the story ‘Hansel and Gretel’. The children enjoyed dressing up as a fairytale character.

Iftar

We had a lovely evening together celebrating Iftar. It was lovely to see so many staff and parents together enjoying delicious home cooked food and treats. Thank you to everyone who helped to organise the event, attended and shared their dishes.

Shy Lowen Horse Sanctuary

It was the last session today, the children gave a presentation about their horse then everyone had a ride. We are very proud of all the children and the horses have really enjoyed the attention they received during the sessions.

Dentist Visitor

Today we had some visitors come from the Dentist to show us how to look after our teeth properly and efficiently. This was great to see what we’re doing correctly and how important it is to look after our teeth.

Ramadan

We have been thinking about the Muslim festival of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr. Fortunately two parents came to visit us to talk about their faith, fasting and this special celebration. The children listened with interest asking questions about this holy month and were given gifts and pictures of a Mosque to colour and decorate which was very much appreciated.

How to keep our teeth healthy

Today we have some exciting visitors to our class to talk about the job of a dentist and how to keep our teeth healthy and clean. The dentists showed us how to clean our teeth twice a day and talked about how important it is to eat healthy food to help our teeth to grow strong.

World Book Day

Forest school fun

Today we had a lovely time visiting the forest school facilities at Liverpool John Moores University. The children enjoyed building a den, collecting sticks, filling bird feeders, playing games on the field and taking part in a treasure hunt to find different natural materials. What a lovely morning !

Camp fire in EYFS forest school

Today the children enjoyed a camp fire, We began by thinking and looking for woodland animals then the children talked about fire safety before helping to chop the wood for the fire. We took turns to stack the wood correctly before lighting the fire with a flint, then we enjoyed singing songs around the camp fire and listening to a story.

Forest School

In today’s forest school, we looked at a non-fiction book about birds, which listed some ways we can attract birds to our garden and some interesting ways to provide food for them to enjoy. We made two different types of bird feeders; we threaded Cheerios on to pipe cleaners and rolled tubes in bird seed. We decided which tree to place them in and we are looking forward to seeing if any come to visit for a snack!

Cooking on the Campfire

After a fun morning making some snacks for the birds, we made a snack on the fire. We toasted some bread, before deciding on our topping. We used the utensils to spread our jam or chocolate spread before sitting down with our friends to enjoy our treat.

Vikings

The class had the opportunity to take part in a fascinating presentation on the Vikings today, delivered by a special guest. Pupils greatly enjoyed the session and gained a deeper understanding of this important period in history.

Liverpool Schools concert

The children thoroughly enjoyed the schools concert performance at the Philharmonic Hall today. They were impressed by the venue and the orchestra! Click the link to watch us sing!

Learning with Liverpool Crucial Crew.

On Friday we spent the morning with Liverpool Crucial Crew learning skills and gaining knowledge to help us stay safe as we prepare to migrate to secondary school.
We took part in various workshops including staying safe by rivers and lakes, what good behaviour looks like on public transport and how bad behaviour can impact our lives forever if we get into trouble with the police. We also learnt how our bodies and senses can react when we drink alcohol or take drugs and the dangerous impact smoking and vaping can have on our bodies before finishing the morning writing our own affirmations about how amazing we are.

Gardening Club has started again!

It’s spring so it’s time to get our allotment prepared for the new growing year. The children harvested the radishes that we planted last autumn, did some weeding and sowed courgette and aubergine seeds. We also looked at the winter bedding plants that we bought and planted out in November, they are doing very well. You can see some photos from our shopping trip in November and photos from now of the plants thriving.

New group at Shy Lowen Horse Sanctuary

This week a new group of very excited children started at Shy Lowen Horse Sanctuary. In session one the children find out a little about the stables, meet some of the horses, then pick the horse they will spend the next five sessions with. Everyone asked some really good questions about the horses and grew in confidence during the session.

Artistic Gymnastics British Championships

The children enjoyed a day out to the M&S Arena to watch the Artistic Gymnastics British Championships. Such amazing talent!

Forest School – Spring has Sprung

We enjoyed listening to a story called ‘The Flower Thief’ which explained some of the signs that we might look out for in the garden and at home to show us that Spring is here. We used the petals and leaves from flowers such as tulips, gerberas and daffodils to create a piece of art. We then used hammers to transfer the dye from the flowers to the fabric.

Campfire Cooking

After a busy session, we made our own pizza pockets. We filled wholemeal pitta breads with toppings including; pizza sauce, cheese, tomatoes and peppers before putting them on the fire to cook. It was great to see some children trying and tasting some new ingredients.

Farmer Ted’s

Reception enjoyed a lovely day in the sunshine at Farmer Ted’s. They met and handled the guinea pigs, helped to maintain the shetland ponies and met some mini beasts from all around the world. They enjoyed watching the sheep show, especially taking part in the dancing at the end and the exciting dinosaur tractor ride. It was fun to meet the other residents of the farm and pretending to be farmers in the tractor ride area.

Geography Trip

Class 3 had a fantastic trip to Loggerheads and Mold today! 🌿⛰️

We explored the landscape, used our compass skills to spot Moel Famau, and enjoyed climbing the hill to take in the amazing views. A brilliant day of learning and adventure! 👏✨

Bertie Bird’s visit to Class 2

Yesterday Class 2 had a lovely morning with a special visit from Becci Cleator, author of Bertie Bird’s Adventures.

We read the story Bertie Bird’s Adventures, which was all about Bertie Starling’s travels around Liverpool. Class 2 could recall some facts from their previous studies about Liverpool. We had lots of fun creating our own bird masks that were inspired by the colourful stained glass windows in the cathedral Bertie visited on his journey. Then the children got to take home their own copy of the book. 🐦⛪️📖

Proud Year 3 moment

A boy in Year 3 has officially signed with Everton FC Under 9s today! 💙⚽️ Someone from the club came into school to present him with his official player card.

Reward Trip

A number of pupils took part in a trip to bowling as a treat to recognise their excellent behaviour in school. Well done for being great examples to others, demonstrating our 5 R’s in school at all times.

Nursery Farm Trip 🐑🐖

Nursery had a wonderful time visiting the farm, where the children were excited to see a variety of animals and their babies. They enjoyed observing the animals up close, learning their names, and talking about how to care for them. It was a lovely hands-on experience that sparked curiosity and supported their understanding of the natural world.

Forest School – Cooking

This week in forest school we enjoyed activities in the sunshine. We started with a scavenger hunt for items that matched descriptions . After that we worked together to peel, slice and core apples before mixing them with sultanas, cinnamon and a sprinkle of sugar. Whilst they were cooking on the fire we used a whisk to make our cream topping.

Gardening Club

Gardening Club enjoyed exploring the new greenhouse, making sure their plants were fully watered and checking on their crops in the allotment and in the planters. We are looking forward to using some of the items harvested in recipes and cooking activities.

Trip to Faulkner Square Gardens

Today we went on a trip to Faulkner Square Gardens where we learnt lots to do with our current history topic. We learnt all about Edward Faulkner and his father, Thomas and lots about the Seaman’s Memorial that is in the same area.
We learnt a lot to do with Slavery and why Liverpool was so important during the Slave Trade.
We completed a worksheet helping us to gain facts and make a timeline and we also wrote our own poem about our surroundings.

Calderstones Park: Signs of Spring🌸

This week Nursery visited Calderstones Park as we explored signs of spring, we looked for lovely new flowers that have bloomed, trees that have started to grow their leaves and we saw lots of minibeast. We also heard lots of beautiful singing from the birds in the trees. Then we had a lovely rest in the sunshine to have a yummy cake and a quick play on the playground before heading back to school. What a lovely afternoon.

The children enjoyed examining artefacts from Ancient Greece today, looking at how objects from the past can tell us about how people lived.

Charity Cake Sale

The School Council want to say a big thank you to everyone who donated and bought cakes recently at their cake sale. They raised £200 and presented the money to Shy Lowen Horse Rescue Centre this week who were delighted.

Albert Dock trip for History

Today we had a trip down to the Albert Dock to ask members of the public about why they are visiting the Albert Dock today. We got to ask if they were from Liverpool or if they were tourists and what they were visiting for, whether it be, museums, restaurants, cafes etc… We got lots of information to make a bar chart with.

Stay and Play

Our second stay and play group enjoyed time in the garden, taking part in some forest school activities. The children and some of their parents enjoyed making nature bracelets, flower art and they used the fire to toast some bread. The children enjoyed showing the parents their knowledge of how to stay safe around the fire before helping to prepare the kindling and lighting the fire with the flint and steel.

Capoeira Assembly

Today we had an assembly about Capoeira and a small taster session for a new after school club that would be starting after half term. This was very interesting to see a new style of club that is an Afro-Brazilian martial art and game that includes elements of dance, acrobatics, music and spirituality.

Capoeira

The children enjoyed an exciting session of capoeira, combining movement, music, and teamwork while building confidence and having fun. A big thank you to the parents who provided the session and helped make the session so enjoyable for everyone! We are looking forward to the after school club starting in Summer 2.

London Town

What a day we had in London! We started our day super early so we arrived in London by 9am. Our first stop was the tube, headed for The Tower of London.
We had a brilliant few hours at The Tower of London where we saw the Crown Jewels, Bloody Tower, Traitors Gate, learnt about William the Conqueror and his White Tower, Sir Walter Raleigh’s imprisonment and had some lunch with the squirrels and ravens before taking part in a wonderful workshop. We then headed to the embankment and had a lovely walk along the Thames seeing the fabulous sites of Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey and Downing Street before taking a stroll past St James’s Park to see Buckingham Palace. After an amazing day we jumped back onto the tube to Euston station where had some tea before boarding our train back to Liverpool. Oh and we did see some famous faces….Sir Kier Starmer and John Barnes!

Forest School

It was a very warm day in the garden so we went to visit the fire when the fire pit was ready to cook on. Today we made cheese toasties, we sang songs around the fire pit whilst we waited for them to cook.

Mystery Guest Reader

LFC Academy Champions

A huge well done to our girls football team who were crowned academy champions after winning their tournament at Melwood on Thursday. Well done all, we are very proud of you!

Diversity Day – Summer 2

Today we had our Diversity Day. We read a book called ‘Wisp, A story of Wonder.’ The themes of this story were Refugees, War, Starting somewhere new, Asylum, Empathy and Welcoming others. The children made connections to stories they’d read and situations they have been in that relate to our story. They made lovely predictions about the story and we talked about how Hope can make a difference to our lives.

Savings Club Assembly

Today we have began taking part in the LifeSavers Programme which will help our pupils learn about money and how to manage it wisely. As part of the LifeSavers Programme we have partnered with a local credit union, Central Credit Union, to provide our school savings club for pupils.

Any pupils from Reception to Year 5 are eligible to join the savings club now and they will receive a LifeSavers Passbook and wallet when they join. Please see the letters your children took home with them for more information and the QR code to register by Friday 12th June.

Some children from each class had the opportunity to partake in the assembly and help their fellow classmates to understand the importance of money and savings.

Y6 Residential- Canoeing

We had lots of fun canoeing along the Menai Strait. The weather was a bit choppy but with great teamwork, we navigated brilliantly. Once we had finished, we used our great teamwork skills to bring the canoes out of the water before some of us braved the water again for a quick dip off the jetty.

Y6 Residential-Abseiling

We had so much fun abseiling and some of us overcome our fears.

World Oceans Day

Today we watched a video and talked about World Oceans Day. We spoke about how people littering affects our environment and how it makes us feel. We also spoke about the Ocean Cleanup team and how that is inspiring and we are very thankful towards people helping to save our Oceans and Environment.

Y6 Residential -High/ low ropes

We showed great teamwork on the zip line and had lots of fun on low ropes…

Y6-Making Our Mark…

Class 6 have been on a graffiti masterclass this week. Making their mark on the street art scene. They have learnt new skills in the art of graffiti and know the difference between commissioned and illegal street art. Take a look at our fantastic work below, with a positive, inspiring message (voted for by class 6) and keep a look out for our final piece on display at our leavers assembly next month.

Y6 Street Art Tour

Today Class 6 took a tour around South Liverpool to take a look at the different styles of street art and the artists behind them. We discussed what we thought their inspiration was and the messages the artwork was giving us. Mr Curry talked about the history and origins of the Secretary Bird and we talked about the similarities between that and our very own Liver Birds.
Finally we were so lucky (and excited) to get to meet two of the well-known street artists we have been studying in our Art lessons…John Culshaw and Liam Bononi! We got to ask them some questions and they told us why they started street art and how long they’d been doing it for, along with their inspiration and how they paint their images on a huge scale. It was such an amazing experience to get to meet and question the artists we have been researching. How lucky are we!

Locked Up!

As part of Year 6 upcoming history topic on The Victorians, we visited one of the smallest Victorian gaols of its time. Now opened as a museum, we got to explore the cells, the maternity area, the governors rooms, punishment yard and learnt about the executions that took place there. As you can see by our photos, some of us weren’t happy to be locked up!

Beatles Museum

Our class had an amazing time visiting the Beatles Museum! 🎵 We learned all about the Beatles’ journey and discovered how music is made. It was fun, interesting, and inspiring to see the instruments, exhibits, and stories behind the music. A fantastic day full of learning and enjoyment!🎸✨

Barnstondale – Day One

After arriving at the centre, the children from Y2 and Y3 headed straight to their first activities. They worked together to build shelters and they found out what fires need to burn successfully. The next activities were orienteering and the cannon run.

The children are enjoying playing together in the different play areas in Barnstondale. It is great to see them working together and getting along!

Climbing at Barnstondale

The children have enjoyed a fun packed morning taking on the climbing wall. All of the children attempted the climb and a lot of them managed to get to the top to ring the bell. It was great to see them all supporting and encouraging each other.

Archery

Both groups enjoyed some time at the Archery range perfecting the skills needed to attempt to hit the target.

Survival Skills

The children took part in a fun session, putting some of their previously taught skills to the test. They worked together as part a team to complete a rescue. Well done everyone!

Geography – Rivers

Class 5 enjoyed a visit to see the River Alt today, observing its journey in Kirkby then to its mouth in Hightown. The children impressed Mr. Verdin with their knowledge before ending the day having fun on the beach!

Water Safety and The Water Safety Code

Today we looked through a PowerPoint and watched a small video on Water Safety. This was very interesting to see how many ways we knew how to stay safe in open water. We learnt about the Water Safety Code too which is; Stop and Think, Stay together, in an emergency Float and Call 999 or 112. The children came up with their water safety code and used actions to help them remember.

Boys and Girls Football team results

Huge congratulations to the boys and girls football teams for making such a great effort over the last year. Thank you to everyone who took part and a special well done to the girls football team for winning the League twice this year! Well done everyone👏🏼

Water Safety

Class 6 today have had an (in class) assembly to look at the dangers of swimming in open waters. We have looked at the warning signs and how to spot dangers or make safe decisions even if we think the water looks safe and calm. We also discussed peer pressure and how to deal with that if one of our friends insists we swim even though we’re not sure. If it doesn’t feel right then don’t do it.

Summer BBQ

A big thank you everyone who attended our Summer BBQ event, you helped us to raise money for both school fund and local charity Love Jasmine. It was great to see everyone enjoying the sunshine, delicious food, stalls and activities.

Thurstaston and Parkgate

Class 6 enjoyed a trip out this week as part of our geography topic. We’ve been learning the history behind the once thriving port of Parkgate and its demise in the 1900s. In class before our trip, we mapped out our route for Thurstaston using our co-ordinates and compass skills and visited the cave where ill-gotten contraband (looted from passing ships in the River Dee) was stored before being sold at The Red Lion public house in Parkgate back in the 18th century. We seen how the River Dee has silted up over time and how Parkgate has become a maritime conservation area. The Red Lion pub is still there today and Parkgate is a lovely place to visit.

Victoria Gallery and Museum

Year 5 enjoyed a marine biology workshop this morning at the Victoria Gallery and Museum. The children learned a lot about the importance coral reef and had the opportunity to create their own!

KS2 Sports Day

Today KS2 took place in their sports day. This was lots of fun. We had an amazing day with lots of competitions. Each class had teams with wristbands that were coloured. We had the Blue team, the Green team, the Red team and the Yellow team. The teams did fantastic and the Red team were the winners.

El Niño picture news

Today we learnt about El Niño and got an explanation as to why the weather has been so different lately. This helped us to understand how to still do the things we love in the hot weather but how to do them safely.

End of Year Trip EYFS: Imagine That!

On Friday Nursery and Reception enjoyed their last school trip of the school year. The children enjoyed using their imagination for people we may know, such as builders and shop keepers. The children then enjoyed decorating clay models, making magic snow and creating bath bombs in a science experiment. Then the children enjoyed exploring around the science area before making some of their own slime. The children had the best day ever!

Water Safety

🌊💛 Year 3 and 4 had a fantastic visit from the lifeguards today, learning all about staying safe in and around water. From spotting dangers to knowing what to do in an emergency, the children were engaged, asked brilliant questions and picked up some lifesaving skills. 🛟🏊‍♀️

KS2 Sports Day

KS2 had a fantastic time celebrating Sports Day! 🌟 From mini golf and football to javelin, standing long jump, relay races and an exciting obstacle course, every child gave it their all. It was wonderful to see so much teamwork, determination and encouragement throughout the day. Well done, KS2! 🏅👏

Music workshop

To promote Liverpool libraries summer reading challenge, the children took part in a music workshop where they were treated to opera singing and musical maths games!

Ukulele Contest Winner!

Khadiatou was the winner for our final contest winner for this year in Year 4. This year Mr Curry donated his lovely Ukulele to us which was so kind of him to help the children’s education. We pulled a name out of a hat with the raffle tickets that everyone had collected over the summer term. She is very happy to be able to use this Ukulele every day at home.

Attendance Award

🎳🏆 A huge congratulations to Year 5 for winning the Best Attendance Award! Their fantastic commitment and teamwork paid off, and they celebrated with a brilliant bowling trip full of smiles, laughter, and lots of fun. Well done, Year 5—keep up the amazing attendance! 🌟👏

Trip to Royden Park

Today we had our end of year trip for Year 4. We had lots of fun. We did a big walk through Royden Park and Thurston. We stopped to see the strawberry picking fields and then had our lunch on a lovely field. We then played a game of football and headed back to school!

Nursery Places Available

We have some places available in our school Nursery, if you would like to apply for a place, please complete the online application form on the admissions section of the school website. We have open evenings coming up in the next few months which are the ideal time to visit our school.

Cross-Country at Croxteth Park

The cross country team started the season well with some amazing results including a 1st place in the boys race and 2nd place in the girls race. Well done everyone!

Space Day

Class 6 took part in a Space Outreach event this week at The University of Liverpool where we heard from lots of experts on all things space. We heard from astronauts about what it’s like to live and work on a space station and also learnt how our bodies react to life in space.
We seen the evolution of telescopes through the years, watched how stars explode, seen an asteroid crash to earth and if that wasn’t enough, we got to take part in some exciting activities. It’s safe to say we all had an out of this world experience.

Shy Lowen

It was fantastic to take a new group to Shy Lowen Horse Sanctuary this week. Over the next six weeks the children will build confidence as they groom their chosen horse, learn lots of facts about horses and then have a ride on the last session.

Gardening Club is Back

We explored our allotment garden and greenhouse to see what changes have taken place over our long break. The children found sweet peppers, lots of tomatoes, some melons and pumpkins. We also dug up our potatoes which Matt made into potato cakes for our lunch the following day, they were delicious.

School Council Meeting at Victoria Gallery

We welcomed our new School Council members at their first School Council meeting yesterday, held at the wonderful Victoria Gallery just off Brownlow Hill. Mr Verdin joined us and asked the children to focus on the following three areas this year: promoting the school savings bank, reducing wasted electricity and reducing food waste at lunch. The children all did us proud with their ideas and their behaviour (as always).

After the meeting we had a chance to look around the museum, which is open for families to visit for free on Saturdays from 10am to 5pm.
