58During Diversity Day class 4 looked at “a shelter for sadness” by Anne Booth. The book is about a small boy who creates a shelter for his sadness, a safe space where Sadness is welcome, where it can curl up small, or be as big as it can be, where it can be noisy or quiet, or anything in between. The boy can visit the shelter whenever he needs to, every day, sometimes every hour, and the two of them will cry and talk or just sit, saying nothing. We discussed whether you should ever pretend you don’t feel a certain emotion.
64Class 6 explored emotions in diversity day. We looked at what depression is and ways of making ourselves and others feel better.
Great yoga class yesterday. We revisited some past poses and done some stretching.
Mental Health and Well-being Week
Today we have been very lucky to listen to Natalie Denny, Natalie went into amazing detail of her characters and what goes into writing a published book. We then had the pleasure of listening to the first chapter of Natalie Denny’s new book, Keisha Jones is a Force of Nature!
This book is about when Keisha discovers that the trees in a nearby park are going to be cut down to make way for a carpark, the Bee Squad has its next cause. It’s time for some green activism to save the VITs … that’s Very Important Trees!
The class enjoyed listening to author Lucy Farfort this morning, after enjoying her book ‘In our Hands’ – a book about hope, unity and positivity! They also drew characters who would transform the world! The book links in well with the upcoming Mental Health and Wellbeing Week.
We were visited by Everton FC football players, Lewis Dobbin and Joao Virginia who took the time out of their busy training schedule to visit school to play a competitive game of bench ball with some pupils. After the session, they sat down to discuss the importance of exercise and keeping fit and healthy and the impact that sport can have on our mental health and wellbeing.
196This week Reception are celebrating mental well-being of children in school, we have enjoyed a lovely assembly from Class 3 on the importance of mental well-being, we then discussed what makes us proud and we drew some pictures of what makes us proud to be in school, what makes us proud at home and what makes us proud to be apart of our family.
The children learned that their voice matters – by expressing their feelings and understanding their rights, children can improve their mental health.
This diversity day, we used the story ‘Walk Tall’ as our stimulus to explore the P4C question ‘Do people always know that they are bully?”
The children welcomed Georgia back this half term for their yoga sessions – excellent poses Class 2!!
Over the last few weeks, parents have joined cookery classes on Tuesday afternoons. They have cooked a selection of dishes with Kirsty and this week Mr Verdin joined in to cook a delicious Thai Chicken Curry. If you would like any information about the classes, please speak to Kirsty.
168In Yoga this afternoon we stretched our bodies, practised balancing and finished off with some relaxation.
The children discussed the five ways of well-being this afternoon, then looked at what the word community means and how we can give to others.
This morning, some of us enjoyed a brisk walk around the beautiful grounds of the National Trust property next to our adventure centre. We enjoyed taking in our surroundings as we walked along the Menai Strait. We then all enjoyed a delicious breakfast. Today groups are enjoying gorge scrambling, paddle boarding, via ferreta, low ropes and the zip wire. We will post some more updates this evening.
194Group Two enjoyed a morning on the water, paddle boarding. The headed down to the Menai Strait in their wet suits and jumped into the very chilly water. After getting to grips with the basics of turning, spinning and trying to travel in a straight line, they walked up the shore and travelled back to the beach. It was great to see some brilliant teamwork on display, helping each other to get into the safety equipment and encouraging each other on the boards.
193Group 3 enjoyed a morning climbing a Via Feratta (Iron Path). They showed bravery and resilience as they faced their fears and they worked brilliantly together as a team.
179Group 1 enjoyed a full day activity today, Gorge Scrambling. They explored rugged rocky ravines and their flowing streams and icy pools. They worked brilliantly together to get through the challenges, encouraging each other every step of the way!
174Group 2 enjoyed the low ropes and the zip wire this afternoon, some of them facing their fears to climb obstacles that were pretty high up!
173Group 3 tried some paddle boarding this afternoon. The weather conditions meant that some children managed to stand up on their boards!
184Tonight we finished off our day with a camp fire. Mr Curry played some songs on the guitar and we sang some of our favourites from music lessons and choir club. Before we went back to the accommodation, we talked about things that we are grateful for, shared our favourite part of the trip and discussed what we are most proud of whilst we have been here.
194KS1 pupils are enjoying their new after school club, forest school. This week we made toast on the fire and enjoyed eating it with our friends.
167Thank you to our visitors teaching us the importance of staying safe in and around water. We learnt techniques how to keep ourselves safe and what to do if we see anyone in need of help.
179This week in club we used the early years outdoors to collect natural objects, then we used our resources to create some natural art.
The children were very proud of their creations.
Each week in Forest School Club the children enjoy an activity of their choice, this weeks task was a “Bug Hunt”. We had so much fun exploring the Early Years outdoors looking for different insects.
42For diversity day, class 5 read the book “my strong mind” by Niels Van Have. The story is about a young girl who faces her own personal challenges by teaching her brain to have a positive mental attitude.
In Nursery we read the story “The Colour Monster Goes to School”.
We discussed a range of emotions, the children described how they feel and created their own monsters.
47First yoga class of the new year for class 6. We talked about our favourite things we done in the summer and revisited some poses to relax us.
Today we spoke about what make us worried, sad or unsafe. We learnt what we can do about it.
40Some representatives from our School Council joined lots of other schools at the School Parliament Conference, listening to others schools discussing the UNICEF rights of the child. After listening to the presentations, they thought about what they would like to do in school to show how we meet these rights.
Today year 1 enjoyed our yoga session with Georgia. We talked about what makes us happy and focused on our breathing.
The children learned important facts this morning about brushing teeth and the dangers of sugar! Did you know after brushing teeth you should spit not rinse your mouth out? The class even danced for the duration of teeth brushing! Well done sugar detectives!
Year 4 had today an assembly about Sugar Awareness. We learnt about how much sugar food have and what it is the impact in our bodies.
What an amazing afternoon we have just had watching the production Star of Wonder. We enjoyed laughing and participating alongside the actors.
Today during Diversity Day we read the book ‘I am Enough’ and we have learnt that the book promotes self-acceptance, self-esteem, and empowerment. The book tells us about the importance of accepting ourselves as we are, celebrating our uniqueness, and recognising our worthiness. Our question today was ‘What does it mean to be enough?’ we enjoyed sharing our thoughts and ideas during our P4C.
This afternoon in Yoga, class 6 are sharing what makes them happy with the help of Mula, our happiness bear.
Sarah from the Tree Council visited us today to lead an assembly on the work of the Tree Council and it’s importance. We were so interested to find out their work and to hear about the impact trees have on our physical and mental health and wellbeing.
Children from KS2 then worked together with Sarah to plant our new hedgerow area and some fruit trees finding out lots of facts and information along the way. This is the start of a project we have started to change and improve our playground. We can’t wait to keep you updated on the progress!
We were lucky today as Miss Georgia brought in one of her special crystals for us to see. She told it was an amethyst all the way from Brazil and that to find crystals you have to crack open special rocks.
Diversity Day
During Diversity Day we had the pleasure of ready ‘Can I Join Your Club?’ By John Kelly. Our book was about a Duck who wants to join a club. But he needs to be able to ROAR to join Lion Club, or TRUMPET to join Elephant Club. And all he can do is QUACK! What’s a Duck to do? Why, set up his own club of course… where everyone is welcome to join!
We discussed what it feels like to be left out and how including others can be the best solution to make everyone happy.
The children were so pleased to begin their yoga sessions with Georgia again this half term!
During Diversity Day, we read the book, When Sadness Comes to Call. We spoke about our feelings, the things that make us sad and what sad can feel like. We then discussed the types of things we can do when we feel sad, who we can talk to if we feel this way and how we can help others.
In yoga we have been practicing our breathing and practicing our stretches which is called ‘down wood doggy’.
World Book Day 2025
Today we enjoyed coming into school dressed in either yellow or our favourite character from our favourite books. We all loved showing each other and discussing what happens in our characters book.
As a class we read and discussed the book The Magic and Mystery of Trees (The Magic and Mystery of the Natural World) written by Jen Green and illustrated Claire McElfatrick.
We discovered how trees communicate and warn each other of predators, how they nurture their networks, record the past, and anticipate the future to ensure their survival. There’s so much more to trees than meets the eye.
From the highest branch all the way down to the complex “wood wide web” of roots, every part of a tree plays an important role. Not only in its own growth, but that the ecosystem of the whole forest or woodland. Did you know that trees take care of each other and that whole forests are connected? As a class we loved learning all about how trees help our world.
We shared a story called ‘When Cucumber Lost His Cool’. We worked as a group to think of ideas to share with Cucumber about what he can do if he is feeling like he is going to loose his temper over things.
The children recalled some brilliant strategies, including balloon breathing, taking a short walk and playing a game to take your mind off things.
The children listened to the story, The Squirrels who Squabbled. We noticed what happened when Cyril and Bruce argued over a nut they got into all kinds of trouble. We discussed being kind to each other and how important it is to share. We spoke about the things we can share with our friends and families in school and at home.
Year 4 prepared an assembly for the rest of the school and parents about how to stay connected and how this helps our mental health.
