Hello and welcome to the Class Three homepage. The team working in Class Three are Miss Gormley and Miss Brisbane. We are very excited for the year ahead and we will keep you updated on the children’s learning on the Chatter Feed on the right hand side of this page.
We use Seesaw to update you on your child’s progress and learning, when you log on you will see snapshots of some of the activities we take part in in class. We expect all parents to interact with posts on Seesaw and to work with their child on activities set at home.
Reading is fundamental to a child’s progress. It helps to introduce your child to new words and increase their vocabulary. We recommend that parents read with their child daily. It helps to spark imagination and to develop comprehension skills. We expect all parents to read with their child and make notes at least once a week.

SPAG
In Year 3, we worked together to improve our SPaG skills by correcting a short paragraph. First, we read the text carefully and looked for spelling mistakes, missing capital letters, and punctuation errors. Then we discussed our ideas with a partner and explained why certain changes were needed.
Dance
Today in PE, Year 3 are working on their DDMIX African dance unit. We began with a warm-up before recapping four key African dance movements. We then practise each movement to the count of eight and experiment with linking them together to create a short dance sequence. Working in groups, we explored different ways of ordering the movements, trying out our own ideas, and performed our sequences to the class. To finish, we discussed what went well, how they kept to the beat, and how the groups worked together before ending with a cool-down.
Class 3 have been working hard on their column addition today. Using place value grids, whiteboards and practical strategies, the children practised adding 2- and 3-digit numbers with great focus. Fantastic teamwork, careful checking and lots of mathematical thinking on show! ✏️➕📊
Class 3 had a wonderful yoga session this afternoon, learning simple poses and mindful breathing techniques. It was a great chance to unwind, strengthen their bodies and calm their minds. 🧘♂️🌼
In English, Class 3 took part in a practical activity to help deepen their character descriptions based on the book Fox. The children used drama and discussion to explore the characters’ emotions and motivations. 🦊📚✨

This term in Year 3, we will be learning all about Animals Including Humans. We will explore how humans and other animals need food and nutrition to stay healthy, and learn that we can make our own food so we get nutrition from what we eat. We’ll also be discovering how skeletons and muscles work together to support, protect, and help our bodies move. We will find out about different types of skeletons, such as endoskeletons and exoskeletons, and identify vertebrates and invertebrates. Through this topic, we’ll develop our understanding of how our bodies function and what helps us stay strong and healthy.
In RE, Year 3 are learning about what a covenant means. They have been finding out that a covenant is a special promise or agreement between people, and in the Bible, it is a promise between God and His people. The children are exploring different examples of covenants, like God’s promise to Noah, and thinking about why keeping promises and showing trust are important.
Dance
In PE, Year 3 are learning an exciting African dance as part of DDMIX (Diverse Dance Mix). They have been listening carefully to the music and moving in time with the beat. The children are practising fun dance moves like the box step, toe touches, arm circles, and the Beyoncé move! They are working together in groups to create short dance sequences, showing rhythm and teamwork. The lessons help them to build confidence, coordination, and enjoy expressing themselves through dance.
Making our own bread
In DT, Year 3 had an exciting time learning how to make bread from scratch. The children explored the ingredients needed and talked about how yeast helps the dough to rise. They carefully measured and mixed the flour, water, salt, and yeast before kneading the dough to make it smooth and stretchy. Everyone worked together brilliantly, following each step of the recipe and noticing how the dough changed texture as it proved and baked. The classroom was filled with the delicious smell of freshly baked bread, and the children were very proud to taste their warm, homemade loaves.
Bread and Sandwiches
During DT, Class 3 had a fun and practical lesson making sandwiches by following simple instructions. The children learned how to use basic kitchen tools safely and carefully spread butter, layered fillings, and assembled their sandwiches step by step. They worked neatly, helping each other and checking that they followed the instructions in the correct order. The activity helped them understand the importance of sequencing, hygiene, and teamwork. Everyone enjoyed tasting their finished sandwiches and felt proud of what they had made!
In English this half term, we’re looking at Fox by Margaret Wild. A powerful story about friendship, trust, and betrayal. We’re exploring how the characters Dog, Magpie and Fox show their feelings through words and pictures. 🦊🐕🦅
📚 Today our class started exploring Ottoline and the Yellow Cat by Chris Riddell! We made predictions about the story, discussed who the characters might be, and shared our first impressions. Exciting mysteries ahead! 🕵️♀️🐱
In this PE lesson, we are learning to move to a beat or rhythm using basic dance actions. We start with a warm-up and a fun “Follow the Leader” activity to get used to moving to music. Then, in groups, we create and perform short dance sequences that include different movements such as jumps, bends, and claps, keeping to a rhythm of four counts. The focus is on creating, adapting, and linking dance actions while working together and keeping time with the music.
Today, someone came in to talk to our class about fossils. They explained that fossils are the preserved remains or traces of plants and animals that lived millions of years ago. We learned how fossils form when organisms are buried under layers of sediment and how scientists, called paleontologists, study them to understand what life was like in the past.
They explained that rocks are made up of minerals and come in three main types: igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic. We learned how each type forms—igneous rocks from cooled lava or magma, sedimentary rocks from layers of sand and mud, and metamorphic rocks from other rocks that change under heat and pressure. The speaker brought in different samples for us to see and touch, which made it easier to understand the differences between them. It was really interesting to learn how rocks can tell us about the Earth’s history and the powerful forces that shape our planet.
During Diversity Day we got to read the poem “I Will Rise” by Sagar Yadav this is about resilience, determination, and the unbreakable human spirit. It expresses the idea that no matter how many times life knocks a person down, they have the strength to stand up again and keep moving forward. The poet uses powerful natural imagery—like the rising sun, the tides of the ocean, and the growth of trees—to symbolize renewal, persistence, and hope. Each verse reinforces the message that failure and hardship are temporary, but courage and perseverance allow one to rise above any obstacle. Ultimately, the poem inspires readers to stay strong, believe in themselves, and never give up, no matter how many times they fall.
As a class we looked at the different similes within the poem and what they mean:
“Like the trees, from seeds they arise” – This simile connects growth and progress to trees that start as small seeds but grow tall and strong. It suggests that even from humble beginnings or after hardship, a person can rise to great heights through patience and endurance.
“Like the sun, which never dies” – This simile compares the speaker’s determination to the sun, which sets every night but always rises again in the morning. It symbolizes hope, renewal, and the certainty that even after dark times, there will be light again.
“Like the ocean whose tides many times they are down, but invariably they rise” – Here, the poet compares human struggles to the ocean’s tides. Even though the tides go down, they always rise again, representing persistence and the natural rhythm of overcoming obstacles. We discussed all of these and created our own similes.
Today in History we have been creating our very own questions to ask our partners about the Stone Age. We sat opposite our partners interviewing them as if we had created our own podcast.
Class 3 had the pleasure of visiting the local theatre the Royal Court Liverpool for a special tour. We were all excited as we arrived, not just to see the grand stage, but to explore what goes on behind the scenes during a production.
A guide welcomed us and took us backstage, it was amazing to learn how much work happens before the actors even step on stage. We also got to see the lighting and sound control room. The technicians explained how they use computers and special equipment to create effects that match the mood of each scene.
The visit made us realise that a successful performance is not just about the actors, it’s a team effort involving many people working behind the curtain.
We were very lucky to be visited by Levi Tafari and Jenny from LLP today. Our KS2 children enjoyed a fantastic assembly listening to a live poetry performance by Levi and discussions about diversity, inclusion and equality. Y6 then enjoyed a poetry workshop.
Today Merseyside Police came into school to talk about the importance of being safe during Halloween and Bonfire night. We discussed how old you have to be to buy and set off fireworks and what time fireworks are allowed to be set off till. We discussed anti social behaviour, what this means and what might happen if we experience this.
Today during PE we enjoyed getting into groups and running round an agility box. We took turns running round the cones in number order as fast as we could, we then let our group set the order of the run eg 1,3,1,4.
For Listen and Appraise class 3 have been listening to Haydn, Symphony No. 94 in G Major. We enjoyed the softness at the beginning then the unexpected increase of the instruments
In Year 3 PSHE, we have been learning that we take medicine when we are unwell to help us get better, making us feel better and improving our health. We have learnt to only are take it only from a trusted adult, ensuring we only receive the correct amount at the right time, as taking too much or the wrong medicine can be dangerous. The importance of only taking the medicine intended for us and taking it under adult supervision is emphasised
This term Year 3 are looking at The Stone Age. The Stone Age is a period of time when humans used stone to make tools. It covers a huge period of time, over 3 million years. Stone Age people were hunter- gatherers. They followed and killed animals and gathered seasonal food. They made clothes from animal skins and created cave art. We have enjoyed creating our own timeline plotting different key points throughout history
This term in science we are looking at Rocks. In Year 3 Science, children learn that there are three main types of rock igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary. They explore how these rocks are formed, examine their different properties, and discuss their uses.
Stone Age
This term our class will be looking at the Stone Age. We created our own timeline and discussing the time span across an enormous period of time. We have looked at the large timeline in our school trying to locate past history topics we have covered.
This term we are looking at Van Gogh. We have enjoyed researching all of his past creations and looking into his history. We have been using a variety of techniques including brushes and investigating the kinds of marks which can be made.
During Diversity Day class 3 enjoyed reading ‘Two Monsters’ written by David McKee. The book is about two monsters who live on either side of a mountain. Sometimes they talk through the hole in the mountain, but they never see each other. One evening, they get into a silly argument about whether day is departing or night is arriving, which escalates into a rock throwing fight, which eventually destroys the mountain, and enables the monsters to see each other’s point of view and live together as friends. We spoke about the themes of this book and identified themes such as differences, communcation and friendship.
As a class we discussed the similarites and differences of each other which then developed into our P4C question.
Is there ever a true right or wrong?
Today we listened to a different type of song by The Beatles.This song was the only song that used a Sitar and had a different tempo than all the other songs they had.
A big thank you to everyone who attended our family BBQ last week. A great time was had by all and we managed to raise over £1000 which will help school funds. We were also able to make a donation to Shy Lowen Sanctuary, where lots of our children have attended over the years. We cannot wait until our next event.
Today we played games to test our knowledge so far. Class three have all done well in remembering our fruits and animals in Spanish.
Today we looked at a timeline of The Beatles journey throughout History. We also listened to the first single that hit number one in America, “I want to hold your hand”.
We have been learning some interesting facts about how the Beatles started.We also listened to a few of their famous songs.
Today we had Hogarth in the hot seat answering questions about the Iron man and how he feels. Uploaded videos on Seesaw .
In class today we looked at a real flower and took it apart. We was able to see the different parts of the flower like the stem,petal,ovary and stamen. We also took a closer look using a magnifying glass.
We have started a new topic in Music, all about the Beatles. We looked into the band members and important places around liverpool. We also listened to the song “With a little help from my friends”
Today in yoga we all had a go at talking about things we like to do and how we are creative.Children mentioned things like singing,dancing,D.T,cooking and drawing.
Today we read a story in Spanish with fruits and colours in.The story was very interesting and class three really enjoyed it.
Today we had a great opportunity to go over to the John Moore’s University sports hall and play a new sports game called Kin ball.
In class today we had a go at singing our song and also watched the performance on screen. We looked at the the things we liked best and what we could improve on.
Today we went outside and made shadows and all had a go at drawing each others shadow from the sunlight.
Forming our own sentences in Spanish on what sport we may like or dislike. We also sang a song on sports,have a look using the QR code !
Today in P:E we are learning the different types of jumps in athletics.
In our groups we had a few runs to understand the rules of relay racing .We then used a baton and used the over and under pass technique.
Today in class we played a game where we had to find the missing letters to the sport. We also wrote them down and discussed our favourite sports.
Our topic this term in P:E is athletics. Today we practiced different techniques to run.On our toes,on our heels and with straight legs.
Today we started a new topic in Spanish “sports”. We played a small quiz and also enjoyed singing a song with the sports in.(video on seesaw)
Today we read a book called “We’re all wonders”. We discussed are differences and how we should treat people with respect and have empathy towards them and be kind.
Today we carried out a simple fair test using differential types of surfaces. We measured the distance the car traveled and compared our answers.
Today we experimented with different types of magnets and looked at which one was the strongest using measurements.
This week we have had a go at catch tennis .We also went outside and practiced both our forehand and backhand swing.
Today in class we clapped are hands to the rhythm grid. We also played the glockenspiel to the song “ Lean on me” .
In yoga we all had a chance to tell the rest of the class about something we love.We also looked at techniques to help with our breathing.
Today we added adjectives and nouns to animals in Spanish.
We also played guess the animal game.
Today we practiced our underarm and overarm throw. We also practiced how to have better control of the ball and where our body’s should be positioned.
Today we have been learning about UK countries and city’s .There are four countries in the UK.
They are England,Northern Ireland,Scotland and Wales.
Class three where amazing today during music,they used some new techniques and the song sounded beautiful at the end.
Today we was given a card with a picture of an animal on and had to form our own sentence in Spanish.There are some videos on SeeSaw.
After playing the glockenspiel we sang “Lean on me” together as a class using different harmonies.
This term in P: E we are starting tennis. We are practicing the techniques of holding the tennis racket and ball.We also learnt how to balance the ball.
Today we used Mula bear and all had a chance to talk about the things that make us happy.
Today in Spanish we read the book “Querido zoo”( Dear zoo )We also learnt how to say “do you have a pet? and we had a go at replying.
Today we went over some music notes we did last half term .We also listened to Lean on me by Bill Withers.We discussed the meaning of the song lyrics and what they mean.
In P:E today in groups we made up our own dance moves using 16 beats.We then performed this to the rest of the class.
We met Santa and told him what we have on our wish list.
We have been practicing our songs for our Christmas performance.A big well done to class 3 for doing so well. Mrs Casey and Miss Ghazali wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a happy new year.
Today we made our own skeleton using paper straws and glue.We included all the bones we have been learning in class.
Today we played a game of “I went to the shop” using the words we have learnt in Spanish.
Today in class we learned about different objects we use in class in Spanish.

Class 3 have continued to look at programming using Scratch. Today we focused on two features movements and speech. We started off by making a program looking at how we can use different blocks from the event section to get a Sprite to move, we used the Green flag, when sprite pressed and space key pressed features. After that we looked at how we can use the wait and speech feature to get two sprites to tell a knock knock joke.
In D.T we made sandwiches using different types of fillings.

This morning Class 3 has been introduced to the coding website Scratch. Children built on their knowledge from Scratch Jr to create their own coding program. Children explored how to add and create Sprites and backgrounds as well as creating code to get their Sprites to move and change costume.
We thought about air inside a balloon. If it’s not visible how do we know it’s there?
We used cybergames.com to find out about hackers and malicious emails.
In class we watched a clip about the famous scientist Mary Anning .

We watched the class assembly and discussed important issues.
We guessed what monster matched the correct description in Spanish .
We used different instruments in rhythm to a song in music.
In class three we discussed in a group why we take medicine and who we take it from.
We spoke about Bob Marleys song and sang it together in class .
In class we sorted the rocks in groups of sizes ,textures ,shape and colour.Then we went outside on the yard and had a look at where we can find different types of rock.
Using a dice we generated a two digit number and then showed this in tens and ones.
In class we listened to sounds on an industrial site.We also learnt about different rhythms and beats.
Today Class 3 has been exploring using Apple pencils to create a digital piece of Artwork of a portrait of themselves. Children took a photo of their face and cropped it down to the left-hand side of their face, children then used procreate to recreate the right-hand side.
In class 3 we read ‘Two Monsters’ which is about two monsters who live on opposite sides of the mountain. They see different things and don’t communicate. We learnt how they stopped fighting and got along.
Today we made paper rockets and measured the distance they traveled using meter rulers.
Class 3 enjoyed a trip to The Florrie on Friday to take part in poetry activities and to listen to Michael Rosen talk and recite some poetry. We took part in a workshop to create our own animal poems, played poetry games and listened to a man called George reading his favourite poems. We had a brilliant time and loved hearing some of our favourite poems including Chocolate Cake and No Breathing in Class!
Today we timed how long it takes spinners made from card and paper to fall the ground.
This morning in Spanish we are talking about fruits and which ones we like and don’t like. We have learnt new verbs and conjunctions.
Class 3 had a wonderful time singing on stage at iSing today. We had fantastic singing from the children and had so much fun !! 🎤🎶
We continued to practice the running stitch and also practiced the running back stitch.
Thank you to our visitors teaching us the importance of staying safe in and around water. We learnt techniques how to keep ourselves safe and what to do if we see anyone in need of help.
Class 3 worked very hard recalling the process of pollination and demonstrated the process using puppets.
For DT we practiced threading needles and looking at different types of stitches.
Class three enjoyed lots of activities at the wavetree tennis centre.

For DT we looked at a selection of bags inside and outside looking at the fabrics and the functions of each bag. We discussed why we liked or disliked each bag.
We identified what objects a Christian house and a non Christian house would have.
Class three have been working very hard practicing their songs for iSing?

A lovely end to another day at our Barnstondale residential, a campfire with marshmallows, songs and stories!
The children practised their shooting skills this afternoon, using a rifle to aim at a target.
Another example of teamwork this morning as this group completed a harnessed river crossing!!
The children worked really well together to complete the canon run and then supported each other in a rope walk!
After a good night’s sleep on their first night, the children enjoyed a lovely breakfast in preparation for another day of activities!
After a fun afternoon of activities, the children enjoyed some of the play equipment in Barnstondale.
The groups enjoyed rock climbing and abseiling this afternoon – a great demonstration of bravery, skills and resilience!
After arriving safely, the children began building shelters in the woods!
During todays lesson, class 3 looked at cut up apples. We looked to see if we could identify the different parts of the plant. We found the anther, remains of stamens the stigma and the leaf.
Class three enjoyed a trip to the museum for their Egyptian topic. We mummified a mummy and looked at all the tools used in the process.
Class 3 used their knowledge of parts of a flowering plant to make flowers.
Class 3 had the opportunity to explore a Micro:bit this morning. Children looked at the basics of how a Micro:bit works and how we can use block coding to create programs. Children then focused on how we can use LEDs to display different animations creating a rock, paper, scissors game. We then created a reaction game using variables, inputs and loops.
Class 3 have been busy dissecting flowers and labelling the different parts!
In science today class 3 looked at transparent, translucent and opaque materials.
A wonderful music lesson with class 3 using different body parts to make sounds.
Class 3 enjoyed walking along Hope Street looking and taking pictures of different architecture.

Class 3 looked at how light reflects on different objects and materials.
For Diversity day class 3 read the book “Talking is not my thing” which is about a autistic girl who uses non verbal communication to communicate. We explored different ways we can communicate and what ways we can help.
For geography, class 3 explored Mold in Wales. We used our map reading skills to help us walk up loggerheads. We had a great day!
In science today we created different shadows and we looked at what happens when we move a light source to and away from an object.
For science day we had a special visit from Mr Stanley. We enjoyed watching Mr Stanley perform lots of different exciting experiments. We learned lots of new things about solids, liquids and gasses and much more!
Class three have enjoyed world book day! It has been so fun and interesting seeing and hearing about each others costumes and favourite books?
In science we looked at light and investigated different sources of light. We discussed how shadows are formed and what makes a good shadow. We enjoyed going outside and drawing around our shadows?
Class 3 has been looking at friction in science this week. We explored how different surfaces have an effect on friction. Using toy cars we measured the distance they travelled on different surfaces.
In DT class 3 made mechanisms using paper and pins. We looked at different movements. We have enjoyed making mechanisms very much!
Class three enjoyed using the Glockenspiel. We had lots of fun learning this new song.
During Diversity Day class 3 looked at the book “Buster the Bully” by Maisha Oso. The book is about a fish that picks on and bullies other little fish. He then goes out to sea and gets bullied by a shark and killer whale. The book gives both perspectives of being the bully and bullied. We discussed what it feels like to be bullied.
Year 3 have been looking at magnets and forces this term. We looked at how magnets attract and repel. Using our knowledge of magnets we have made a moving maze game. We had lots of fun!!
In music this week Class 3 practiced a song called “Amani Utupe”. We enjoyed it very much!

Year 3 enjoyed a fantastic geography trip to the University of Liverpool. We learnt about different rocks and we looked at volcanos. During the session we enjoyed dressing up in lab coats and performing an experiment. ?
We had a very special visitor in school on party day, every class had the opportunity to visit the grotto and they left with some gifts.
In PSHE we have discussed ways of keeping safe at home, in school and when out and about.
