7Hello and welcome to the Class One homepage. The team working in Class One are Mrs Böhmová and Miss Farley. We are very excited for the year ahead and we will keep you updated on the children’s learning on the Chatter Feed on the right hand side of this page.
We use Seesaw to update you on your child’s progress and learning, when you log on you will see snapshots of some of the activities we take part in in class. We expect all parents to interact with posts on Seesaw and to work with their child on activities set at home.
Reading is fundamental to a child’s progress. It helps to introduce your child to new words and increase their vocabulary. We recommend that parents read with their child daily. It helps to spark imagination and plays a crucial role in speech development which introduces children to the world around them and new concepts.
If you have any problems accessing Seesaw or the Monster Phonics e-books, please contact us using the parentmail@pleasantstreet.liverpool.sch.uk email address and we will try to support you.
Thursday – The children should wear PE kits into school on this day.
Seesaw Activities – Activities are posted on Seesaw every Friday for you to view and complete at home with your child.

7Each week in Forest School Club the children enjoy an activity of their choice, this weeks task was a “Bug Hunt”. We had so much fun exploring the Early Years outdoors looking for different insects.
25We have worked hard locating the surrounding seas and oceans of the UK. We used atlases to help locate them and discussed the difference between a sea and ocean.
We used blocks to help us work out the distance from Liverpool to each capital city in the United Kingdom. We discussed which capital city was the closest to our city and which was the furthest away.
Thank you to our visitors teaching us the importance of staying safe in and around water. We learnt techniques how to keep ourselves safe and what to do if we see anyone in need of help.
126We collected some natural objects and created our own piece of art work. We tried hard to design work in the style of Richard Long.
Y1 enjoyed visiting Strawberry Field, John Lennon’s childhood home and Penny Lane as part of their History topic based on The Beatles. They viewed artefacts and information, took part in a sing-a-long with a musician and had the chance to ask the expert guide, Chris, lots of questions along the way.

This week we enjoyed listening to ‘Yellow’ by Coldplay. Lots of us had heard this song before and liked hearing the guitar.
We enjoyed making our own fruit salads. We followed the instructions we made and carefully chopped up the fruit. We took our fruit salads home to enjoy.
Thank you to all of the Y1 parents who joined us for the Phonics Screening Information meeting. If you have any questions about the test, please do not hesitate to ask us.

This morning Class 1 have been using their knowledge gained from the past few weeks to program Beebots and Sphero Indi’s to move. Children worked to get the robots to do a series of instructions that included turning and moving forwards and backwards, children also completed different levels on the Beebot app.
21The children wore some wonderful costumes and outfits today, as they celebrated World Book Day. The children were also excited to take home their free book.
This morning Class 1 has been recapping what Algorithms are and why they are used when coding. Today children had to create algorithms to get a robot to complete different levels, we focused on moving forward and how we can use the turn right and left blocks to change direction. Children then looked at how we could apply this knowledge to a Beebot and created a ‘help sheet’ to use in the next lesson.
23In DT we practised the running stitch using a needle and thread. We had to carefully sew around the edge of the fabric. We are looking forward to making our puppet. ?
This week in PE we enjoyed using different apparatus. We had to learn how to travel and use the apparatus safely.
During art we have been researching Henri Matisse and looking at his style of work. We enjoyed using oil pastels to create the background for our final design.
For Diversity Day we read ‘Ruby’s Worry’. We thought about the different themes in our story and discussed what a worry is. We spoke about what we can do when we feel worried and thought about the different people we can share our worries with.
Our P4C question was ‘Is it ever useful to worry?’
