At Pleasant Street Primary School, we want our children to develop a love of art, craft and design! We want them to have no limits in their future ambitions of wanting to be illustrators, graphic designers, fashion designers, curators, architects or printmakers.
Our Art curriculum is designed to engage, inspire and challenge pupils, whilst equipping them with the knowledge and skills that will enable them to experiment, invent and create their own works of art.
We want to equip our children with not only the minimum statutory requirements of the Art and Design National Curriculum but to prepare them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life. We want our children to use the local area as inspiration, to learn from other cultures and to respect diversity.
Reception celebrated world book day by reading the story Little Red Riding Hood this year, we had a fun day with lots of different activities such as role playing the story and sequencing the story in to order, we also made our own little red riding hoods.
The children took some wonderful photographs this week for their Art topic, looking at landmarks, objects or patterns around the city centre before choosing and editing their final choices.
During art we have been researching Henri Matisse and looking at his style of work. We enjoyed using oil pastels to create the background for our final design.
In art class 6 have been researching different artists from Claire Caulfield to Lowry and their interpretations of urban areas. We took some pictures of local areas and today we are using skills we have learnt to draw them from our own perspectives.
For diversity day we read a lovely story called “the colours of us”, we discussed the colours of people’s skin and how it makes us unique and we then created self portraits.
